This paper focuses on the Japanese schools established in Daejeon and Chungnam during the colonial period. A regional perspective was utilized to study these schools instead of through the centralized Joseon educational decree and education system. Specifically, the overall aspect of Japanese schools in Daejeon and Chungnam was studied, as well as the education decree recorded in these regions during the colonial period. Although there is a historical issue with the dual character of the local region, its value as data is quite high. During the colonial period, the purpose of Japanese schools was to cultivate new citizens of the Hwangguk and to educate them to the same level as the Joseon and natives of the Japanese homeland. However, it is difficult to assess the entire regional education only from a single perspective. At this time, there were active Japanese in the region with enthusiasm and goals for education in the region. Of course, in the case of Japanese schools in Daejeon and Chungnam, implementation of Japanese–centered secondary education and colonial education policies occurred at the will of the Japanese. As such, this study focuses on the overall flow of education decrees recorded in Japanese schools in the local regions of Daejeon and Chungnam.

본 논문에서는 식민지 시기 지방지에 기록된 교육령과 대전과 충남에 설립된 일본인학교에 초점을 맞추어 살펴보았다. 식민지 시기 일본인학교를 총독부 중심의 이데올로기 관점이 아닌 지역의 교육제도와 교육령을 통해 보고자 했다. 특히 식민지 시기 지역을 기록한 지방지에 수록된 교육령을 고찰한 후, 대전과 충남 지역의 일본인 학교에 관한 전체적인 양상을 보고자 했다. 지방지에 중점을 둔 이유는 지방지가 지닌 이중적인 성격 의 역사적인 문제가 존재함에도 그 자료로서의 가치가 상당히 크기 때문이다. 식민지 시기 일본인학교의 목적은 황국신민 양성과 조선과 일본의 동일화를 목표로 한 교육이었다. 하지만 총독부 중심의 중앙 중심의 관점만으로 지역 교육의 전체를 논하 기는 어렵다. 지역에는 그 지역에서 활약했던 재조일본인들이 존재했고 지역 나름의 교육에 관한 열정과 목표가 있었다. 한편으로 대전과 충남의 일본인학교의 경우에도 일본인 중심의 중등교육과 일제에 의한 식민지 교육정책이 시행되었다. 이러한 점으로 식민지 시기 일본인학교에 관한 연구는 한계점과 이중성을 지니게 되었다. 하지만 그 숫자가 적더라도 조선인들도 분명 일본인학교에서 교육을 받아왔고 실업계 학교에서는 조선인 학생 수가 훨씬 많기도 했다. 그러한 역사적 사실을 중심으로 본 논문에서는 대전과 충남의 일본인학교와 지방지 속에 기록된 교육령의 특징을 중심으로 고찰하고자 했다.
