The purpose of this study is to enhance the effectiveness of university liberal arts music courses by identifying the factors that influence foundational background knowledge and the triggering of interest, as well as the causal relationships among these factors. This study empirically analyzed the effects of understanding European culture as a background for classical music on musical interest, learning flow, and learning continuance. The participants were male and female undergraduate students enrolled in a general education music course based on listening and critique at C University in Gyeongnam province, and data were collected by distributing and returning questionnaires for analysis. The study’s results indicate that first, European cultural understanding exerts a positive influence on musical interest. Second, musical interest shows positive significance for both learning flow and learning continuance. In addition, learning flow has a significant positive effect on learning continuance. Based on these findings, the implications for strengthening general education music pedagogy include promoting convergence of music, arts, and humanities to enhance listening competencies and stimulate musical interest, increasing the use of multimedia to elevate learning flow and diversifying general education music curricula to foster sustained learning. For future research, analyzing how the content of European culture’s history, society, and arts in specific subareas relates to enhanced interest and learning outcomes is expected to contribute to qualitative improvements in humanities–arts integration within general education music programs.

본 연구의 목적은 대학 교양 음악 과목의 효과를 높이기 위하여 기본 배경지식과 흥미 유발의 영향 요인 및 인과적 관계를 밝히는 것이다. 이를 위해 클래식 음 악의 배경으로서 유럽 문화 이해가 음악적 흥미, 학습몰입 및 학습 지속에 미치는 효과를 실증분석을 통해 규명하였다. 연구의 대상은 경남의 4년제 C대학교에서 감상과 비평을 기반으로 하는 교양 음악 과목을 수강한 남녀대학생이며 설문지를 배부·회수하여 분석하였다. 연구의 분석 결과, 첫째, 유럽 문화 이해는 음악적 흥 미에 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 음악적 흥미는 학습몰입과 학습 지속에 정적 유의성을 보였으며, 학습몰입은 학습 지속에 유의미한 정적 효과 를 나타냈다. 본 연구 결과에 따른 시사점으로 대학 교양 음악 교육의 내실화를 위하여 음악 예술과 인문학의 융합으로 감상 역량을 높여 음악적 흥미를 유발하고, 학습몰입을 높이기 위한 멀티미디어 활용을 늘리며, 학습 지속을 의도하도록 교양 음악 교과의 다양화가 이루어져야 한다. 후속 연구에서 유럽 문화의 역사, 사회, 예술 등 세부 분야의 수업내용이 흥미와 학습 효과를 증진하는 관계를 분석함으로써, 교양 음악 프로그램에서 인문과 예술의 융합 교과의 질적 향상에 도움을 줄 것으로 기대된다.
