This study aims to examine the research trends of NLI children through domestic and international literature analysis on nonspecific language impairment (NLI) children and discuss future research directions based on this. As a research method, domestic and international literature on NLI children published between 2000 and 2024 was searched and collected. A total of 15 papers derived according to the selection criteria were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, first, in terms of the age of the research subjects, domestic studies targeted mixed age groups including preschool and school-age children, whereas in foreign studies, studies focusing on school-age children accounted for the highest proportion (64.8%). In terms of research design according to the time perspective, cross-sectional studies were the mainstay both domestically and internationally, and the proportion of longitudinal studies was relatively low. Third, in terms of research type according to the observation method, most of them were focused on descriptive studies, and experimental studies, especially experimental designs that verify the effects of intervention, were significantly lacking. Fourth, in the analysis of research topics, most studies focused on grammar and syntax, while other language subdomains such as vocabulary, pragmatics, and phonology were relatively less addressed. In particular, studies exploring interactions with non-linguistic variables such as social communication skills, executive functions, and emotional and behavioral characteristics were very limited. Therefore, we require longitudinal and experimental research designs that include children of various ages, expansion of dependent variables that include social and emotional contexts, and clarification of group classification based on standardized diagnostic criteria in future studies. This will contribute to establishing an empirical basis for a more accurate understanding of children with non-specific language impairment and the establishment of effective intervention methods.

본 연구는 비특정 언어장애 아동(Nonspecific Language Impairment, NLI)에 관한 국내외 문헌 분석을 통해 NLI 아동의 연구 동향을 살펴보고 이를 토대로 이후 연구 방향에 대해 논의하고자 한다. 연구방법으로는 2000년부터 2024년 사이 에 발표된 NLI 아동에 대한 국내외 문헌들을 검색, 수집하였다. 선정 기준에 따라 도출된 총 15편의 논문을 분석하였다. 분 석 결과, 첫째, 연구 대상의 연령대에 있어 국내 연구는 취학 전 아동과 학령기 아동을 함께 포함한 혼합 연령 집단을 대상 으로 한 반면, 국외 연구에서는 학령기 아동을 중심으로 한 연구가 가장 높은 비중(64.8%)을 차지하였다. 시간 관점에 따른 연구 설계에서는 국내외 모두 횡단연구가 주를 이루었으며, 종단연구의 비중은 상대적으로 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 관찰 방법에 따른 연구 유형으로는 대부분 기술연구에 집중되어 있었으며, 실험연구 특히 중재 효과를 검증하는 실험 설계는 현저 히 부족하였다. 넷째, 연구 주제 분석에서는 문법 및 통사 영역에 집중된 연구가 주를 이루었고, 그 외 어휘, 화용, 음운 등의 언어 하위 영역은 상대적으로 적게 다루어졌다. 특히 사회적 의사소통 능력, 실행기능, 정서 및 행동 특성과 같은 언어 외적 변인과의 상호작용을 탐색한 연구는 매우 제한적이었다. 이상의 결과는 현재까지의 국내외 NLI 아동 연구가 주로 기술적 관 찰과 언어 구조 중심의 분석에 집중되어 있으며, 장기적 발달 추적, 중재 효과 검증, 통합적 변인 분석의 측면에서는 미흡함 을 드러낸다. 따라서 우리는 향후 연구에서 다양한 연령대의 아동을 포함한 종단적·실험적 연구 설계, 사회적·정서적 맥락을 포함하는 종속변인의 확장, 그리고 표준화된 진단 기준을 기반으로 한 집단 분류의 명확화가 요구된다. 이는 비특정 언어장 애 아동에 대한 보다 정확한 이해와 효과적인 중재 방안 수립을 위한 실증적 기반을 마련하는 데 기여할 것이다.
