The Warmate is a war-proven tactical one-way attack(OWA) drone, strategically adopted by the ROK Army through defense-industrial cooperation with Poland. Originally designed for small-unit precision strike missions, it is currently employed by operational- and strategic-level units, limiting its intended tactical utility. This study analyzes the Warmate’s current employment through the lens of the Revolution in Military Affairs (RMA), focusing on three core elements: organizational structure, concept of operations(CONOPS), and weapon system integration. Based on this analysis, the study proposes optimization strategies, including reassignment to tactical-level units, development of tailored CONOPS and TTPs(Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures), establishment of a sustainment framework using Integrated Product Support(IPS), and promotion of domestic localization. These efforts are closely tied to building the technological and industrial foundation necessary for fielding small attack drones. Warmate should not be treated as a one-off acquisition, but as a meaningful pilot case that reflects the ROK Army’s direction for future force development and demonstrates the fielding potential of OWA drones at the tactical level. Continued refinement of operational concepts and institutional alignment is essential for translating this capability into effective combat power.

Warmate 자폭드론은 우크라이나 전쟁을 통해 실전성이 입증(war-proven)된 전술용 무기체계로, 한국군은 폴 란드와의 방산교류 협력 차원에서 전략적으로 도입하였다. 그러나 이 드론은 본래 소부대 전술타격을 목적으로 설계된 체계임에도 불구하고, 우리 군에서는 전략·작전급 제대를 중심으로 운용되고 있어 운용 효과가 제한될 우려가 있다. 이에 본 연구는 군사혁신(RMA) 관점에서 Warmate의 운용 상황을 ‘조직·편성’, ‘운용개념’, ‘무기체계’라는 세 가지 핵심 요소를 중심으로 진단하고, 전투효과 극대화를 위한 최적화 방안을 제시하였다. 특히 전술제대 중심의 운용 전환, 운용개념 및 전술ㆍ전기ㆍ절차(TTPs) 정립, 통합체계지원(IPS) 기반의 지속 운용체계 구축, 그리고 국산화 추진은 소형공격드론 전력화의 기술 확보 및 양산 기반 마련에 직결된다. 결론적으로 Warmate는 단순한 일회성 도입이 아니라, 시범 운용 을 통해 우리 군의 전력발전 방향성과 자폭드론 전력화 가능성을 실증하기 위한 유의미한 사례가 될 수 있다. 향후 운용구조 재정립과 정책적 후속조치를 통해 실질적인 전투역량 확보를 위한 체계적 후속연구가 지속되어야 한다.
