We conducted this study to systematically examine the concept of 'Convergent-Complexity' in performing arts and to propose future directions for its development. We first identified the meaning and scope of 'convergent-complexity' and conducted a comparative analysis of the conceptual differences between 'convergence' and 'complexity.' We then analyzed the similarities and differences among adjacent genres to understand how convergent-complexity interacts with them. We also addressed the confusion arising from inconsistent usage of the terms 'convergent-complexity,' 'convergence,' and 'complexity' in the practical field of performing arts. Through this study, we confirmed that 'convergent-complexity' is often reduced or misapplied and suggested the need for systematic future research to address these issues. We expect that our research will provide foundational data for the conceptual clarification of convergent-complexity performing arts and contribute to establishing a structured framework for future studies.

우리는 본 연구를 통해 공연예술에서 ‘융복합(Convergent-Complexity)’ 개념과 인접 장르와의 관계를 체계적 으로 분석하고, 향후 융복합 공연예술이 나아가야 할 방향을 제시하고자 하였다. 먼저 ‘융복합’이라는 용어의 개념과 범위를 확인하고, ‘융합(Convergence)’과 ‘복합(Complex)’의 개념적 차이를 비교 분석하였다. 이를 바탕으로 각 장르 간의 차이점과 유사성을 확인하고, 융복합예술이 인접 장르와 어떻게 상호작용하는지를 분석하였다. 우리는 또한 융 복합 공연예술의 기획 및 실천 과정에서 발생하는 용어 혼용 문제를 확인하고, ‘융복합’, ‘융합’, ‘복합’ 개념의 명확한 구분이 필요함을 강조하였다. 연구 과정에서 우리는 ‘융복합’이라는 용어가 예술 전반에서 축소되거나 잘못 사용되고 있음을 확인하였고, 이를 바로잡기 위한 체계적 후속 연구의 필요성을 제안하였다. 본 연구는 융복합 공연예술의 개 념적 명확화를 위한 유용한 기초 자료를 제공하고, 향후 연구의 방향성을 제시하는 데 기여하고자 한다.
