Emerging as a critical response to the explanatory crisis and methodological fragmentation in contemporary sociology, analytical sociology places clarity, precision, and above all, a methodological commitment to ‘analysis’ at its core. It seeks to decompose social phenomena into constituent components and reconstruct their causal structures in a way that goes beyond mere description or statistical correlation, aiming instead for generative and mechanism-based explanations. This study examines how such metatheoretical and methodological commitments are realized as a coherent research program within analytical sociology. First, the paper explores how the central notion of ‘analysis’ informs and organizes key methodological components—namely, the orientation toward middle-range theorizing, mechanism-based explanation, generative model construction, agent-based simulation, and methodological individualism. Second, it investigates how analytical sociology approaches complex social phenomena such as social dilemmas, collective action, social trust, homophily, Matthew effects, thresholds, and tipping points. In doing so, analytical sociology operationalizes structural explanation models like Coleman’s bathtub model and the DBO (Desire –Belief–Opportunity) model to formalize action-based explanatory structures, and employs generative models to bridge micro–macro linkages in substantive terms. Ultimately, this paper demonstrates that analytical sociology is not merely a toolbox of techniques, but a structured research program grounded in problem-oriented inquiry and explicit explanatory strategies. It provides a theoretical framework for multi-level interpretations of complex social phenomena, while also offering a potential platform for theoretical pluralism—where diverse perspectives can engage in critical dialogue under shared standards of clarity and explanatory adequacy.

현대 사회학의 설명력 위기와 방법론적 분절성을 비판적으로 반성하며 등장한 분석 사회학은, 명료성과 정확성, 그리고 무엇보다도 ‘분석’이라는 방법적 태도를 핵심 규범 으로 삼는다. 분석사회학은 사회현상을 구성요소 수준으로 분해하고 그 인과구조를 해 부적으로 재구성함으로써, 단순한 서술이나 통계적 상관관계를 넘어선 인과적 해명을 추구한다. 본 논문은 분석사회학의 이러한 메타이론적･방법론적 지향이 어떻게 하나의 정합적인 연구프로그램으로 실현되는지를 고찰하고자 한다. 이를 위해 본고는 첫째, 분 석사회학의 분석 개념이 중범위이론의 지향, 메커니즘 중심 설명, 발생모델 구축, 행위자 기반 시뮬레이션, 개체주의적 접근 등으로 어떻게 조직화되는지를 고찰하였다. 둘째, 분 석사회학이 사회적 딜레마, 집합행동, 사회적 신뢰, 동종친화성, 마태효과, 문턱값과 티 핑포인트 등 복잡한 사회현상에 대해 어떻게 설명력을 확보하는지를 살펴보았다. 이 과 정에서 분석사회학은 콜먼의 욕조모델, DBO모델 등을 활용하여 행위 기반 설명구조를 정형화하며, 구체적인 발생모델을 통해 미시–거시 연결의 실질적 해명을 시도한다. 결론 적으로 본 논문은 분석사회학이 단지 방법론적 기법의 조합이 아닌, 문제 중심의 연구 태 도와 명시적 설명 전략에 기반한 하나의 구조적 연구프로그램임을 밝힌다. 이는 복잡한 사회현상에 대한 다층적 해석과 설명을 가능하게 하는 틀을 제공할 뿐 아니라, 사회과학 이론들이 명료성과 설명 가능성을 기준으로 상호 경쟁･조정될 수 있는 공론장의 가능성 또한 내포한다.
