Post-apocalyptic fiction, a sub-genre of speculative fiction, is rapidly growing in popularity and movies made from these novels are gaining universal appeal in this digital age. However, the concept of apocalypse is as old as religion itself. Throughout history, humans have had an incessant curiosity in apocalyptic narratives and these narrative evolve in accord with the philosophies of their time. This research article tries to probe into the patterns and representations of post-apocalyptic world in novel The Road by Cormac McCarthy, using the theoretical framework of Postmodernism.

포스트아포칼립스 소설은 SF의 하위 장르로, 최근 디지털 시대에 접어들 며 빠르게 대중적 인기를 얻고 있으며, 이 장르를 바탕으로 한 영화들도 전 세계적으로 호응을 얻고 있다. 그러나 종말(apocalypse)의 개념은 종교만큼이나 오래된 것이다. 인류 는 역사적으로 종말 서사에 지속적인 관심을 가져왔으며, 이러한 서사들은 시대의 철학 에 따라 진화해왔다. 본 논문은 코맥 매카시의 소설 『더 로드』에 나타나는 포스트아포칼 립스 세계의 서사적 패턴과 재현 양상을 포스트모더니즘 이론을 바탕으로 분석한다.
