This study examines W. B. Yeats’s poem “Ego Dominus Tuus” to explore the theme of the diverging self through Yeats’s essential poetic device, the Mask, and Platonism, which posits that the material world is an illusion and emphasizes the pursuit of an ideal realm. The dialogue between Hic and Ille represents objectivity and subjectivity, reflecting Yeats’s exploration of the self’s duality. This interaction illustrates how Yeats transcends material limitations to reach the ideal realm through the Mask. As a means of enhancing imagination, the Mask facilitates the attainment of Platonic or Neoplatonic ideals. This study illuminates Yeats’s philosophical reflections on reality and spiritual transcendence, offering a deeper understanding of his poetic principles related to the Mask and Neoplatonic thought, which are essential for interpreting this complex poem.
