Plastic, one of the most influential hyperobjects of the 21st century, and the human body are exposed to each other. Cho Si-hyun's literature forms a worldview of a dystopian future centered on the human body, which undergoes physical and chemical changes due to exposure to plastic. In Cho Si-hyun's novels, “pla-humans,” with plastic flowing through their veins instead of blood, and their transitional forms, transformed trans-bodily bodies, appear. These bodies belong to the time of the “slow extinction” that has already arrived, questioning the boundaries of the body and the ethical future of (non)humans as post-humans. The bodies in Cho’s works that demonstrate trans-corporeal performance jump into the earth and become entangled with nature, jump into the digital world and confirm the physicality of the informatized body, and jump into space and open up the possibility of cosmic post-humanism. In this way, Cho Si-hyun's novels expand and deconstruct the boundaries of the body that are already exposed, despite the persistence of 20th-century desires. And without forgetting that “every moment in which we can speak and imagine the future is an opportunity” in a world that is already dying, they awaken the ethical role of dystopian imagination, which endlessly pursues the ethics of contact in the midst of destruction and imagines a world possible after it.
