This study explores the philosophical foundation and aesthetic characteristics of Taekkyon, a traditional Korean martial art. Taekkyon is based on the principle of sangsaeng gongyeong (mutual prosperity), embodying traditional aesthetics such as “frugality without shabbiness” (geom-i bul-lu) and “splendor without excess” (hwa-i bul-chi). Four core aesthetic values are identified: wan-i bul-jeong (continuity with relaxation), dan-i bul-il (simplicity with variation), bi-i bul-hae (agility without harm), and hwa-i bul-chi (grace without extravagance). These values reflect ethical restraint and beauty in movement. Taekkyon’s aesthetics emphasize harmony over competition and joy over confrontation. Its refined motions and philosophical depth make it suitable for reinterpretation in modern performance, education, and media. This research highlights the need to preserve and develop Taekkyon as a global cultural asset.

본 연구의 목적은 택견 미학의 철학적 기초를 고찰하고, 택견 기술 속에 내재된 미학적 특성을 규명하여 택견이 지닌 미학적 가치를 탐구하 는 것이다. 그 결과 첫째, 택견의 미학은 택견 철학인 상생공영을 기초 로 검이불루(儉而不陋), 화이불치(華而不侈)라는 한국 전통 미학의 원리 를 내재하고 있다. 둘째, 미학적 특성은 완이불정(緩以不停), 단이불일(單 以不一), 비이불해(飛以不害), 화이불치(華以不侈)로 느려 보이나 정지해 있지 않고, 단조로워 보이나 만 가지의 동작이 있고, 비각술처럼 고급 술기가 있으나 남을 해치지 않고, 화려해 보이나 불필요한 동작이 없다. 이러한 특성은‘승부'보다 값진‘만남'의 가치를‘경쟁'보다 즐거운‘축 제'의 기쁨을 누리는 실천적 가치로 승화된다. 셋째, 택견은 과거 무형유 산에만 머무르지 않고, 오늘날의 문화 예술과 스포츠, 교육 등 다양한 영역에서 재해석되고 확장되어야 한다. 또한 부드러운 동작과 절제된 기 술은 공연예술이나 미디어 콘텐츠로의 발전 가능성이 매우 높다. 따라서 전통 미학의 본질을 현대의 언어로 번역하고, 이를 통해 택견을 세계적 인 문화유산으로 발전시켜 나가는 작업은 매우 시의적절하고, 필연적이 라 할 수 있다.
