This study aims to analyze the current state of statistical graph instruction in Korea's elementary mathematics curriculum and propose directions for its improvement. To this end, previous studies were reviewed to identify key issues in statistical graph education in elementary schools, and the units on statistical graphs in elementary mathematics textbooks based on the 2022 revised curriculum were analyzed. The analysis revealed that the current instruction heavily emphasizes repetitive graph-drawing activities, while insufficient attention is given to graph comprehension. In addition, statistical graphs suitable for numerical data, such as dot plots, are not included in the curriculum, limiting students' opportunities to learn about data distributions. Based on these findings, this study proposes the following improvements: (1) integrating the pictograph and bar graph units to enhance visualization and interpretation skills for categorical data; (2) introducing dot plots to provide students with opportunities to visually explore and interpret distributions of numerical data; and (3) shifting instructional focus toward utilizing statistical graphs as tools for statistical problem solving.

본 연구는 우리나라 초등학교 수학과 교육과정에서 통계 그래프 지도가 어떻게 이 루어지고 있는지를 분석하고, 향후 개선 방향을 제안하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이 를 위해 선행 연구를 검토하여 초등학교 통계 그래프 교육의 주요 문제점을 도출 하고, 2022 개정 수학과 교육과정에 따른 초등학교 수학 교과서의 통계 그래프 단 원 구성을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 현재 초등학교 통계 그래프 교육에서는 반복적 인 그래프 그리기 활동의 비중이 과도하며, 그래프 해석 활동이 충분히 이루어지지 않고 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 점그래프와 같은 수치형 자료에 적합한 그래프는 교 육과정에 반영되지 않아, 분포 개념에 대한 학습이 제한적인 것으로 나타났다. 이 에 본 연구에서는 첫째, 그림그래프와 막대그래프 단원을 통합하여 범주형 자료에 대한 시각화 및 해석 능력을 심화할 것, 둘째, 점그래프를 도입하여 수치형 자료의 분포를 시각적으로 탐색하고 해석하는 기회를 제공할 것, 셋째, 통계 그래프를 통 계적 문제해결 과정의 도구로 활용하는 방향으로 지도를 전환할 것을 제안하였다.
