This study proposes a reading method to foster philosophical thinking in university-level reading and writing courses. Matthew Lipman’s multidimensional thinking—critical, creative, and caring thinking—can be cultivated in various ways. However, reading and writing constitute the most fundamental and essential approach. I argue that multidimensional thinking can be promoted through multidimensional reading, namely critical, creative, and caring reading. In the reading process, the presentation of appropriate questions that stimulate each type of thinking can contribute to the enhancement of students’ multidimensional thinking. As a practical example, this paper introduces a classroom case dealing with Hans Jonas’s The Imperative of Responsibility: In Search of an Ethics for the Technological Age, and examines how each dimension of multidimensional reading can be applied. Such reading questions and classroom practices link reading and writing in basic literacy education to the cultivation of philosophical thinking, thereby contributing to the expansion of philosophy education.

본 연구는 대학 읽기/쓰기 수업에서 철학적 사고를 촉진하는 읽기 방법을 제안하는 것이다. 매튜 립맨(Matthew Lipman)의 다차원적 사고(비판적 사고, 창의적 사고, 배려적 사고)는 여러 방식으로 교육 가능하지만, 그 중 읽기/쓰기의 방식이 가장 기본적이고 중요 하다. 필자는 다차원적 사고가 다차원적 읽기(비판적 읽기, 창의적 읽기, 배려적 읽기)를 통해 촉진될 수 있다고 생각한다. 읽기 과정에서 각 사고를 촉진할 적절한 질문의 제시는 학생들의 다차원적 사고의 증진에 도움이 될 수 있다. 실제적 예시로서, 한스 요나스의 『책임의 원칙: 기술 시대의 생태학적 윤리』를 다룬 수업 사례를 제시하며, 다차원적 읽기 의 각 차원이 어떻게 활용될 수 있는지를 살펴본다. 이러한 읽기 질문의 제시와 수업 사례는 대학 기초문해교육에서의 읽기/쓰기와 철학적 사고교육을 연결지어, 철학교육의 외연 확장에 기여할 수 있다.
