The issue of isolated youth in South Korea is gaining attention and being highlighted as a social problem. According to the '2022 Seoul City Survey on Isolated/Hikikomori Youth' conducted by the Seoul, it is estimated that about 3.3% of young people living in Seoul, or between 93,000 and 96,000 individuals, are in a state of isolation. The purpose of this study is to explore in-depth the isolation and recovery experiences of isolated young adults. To do so, in-depth interviews were conducted with seven participants who experienced isolation in young adulthood and their experiences of isolation and recovery were analyzed through qualitative research. The analysis resulted in 9 overarching categories and 19 subcategories centered on three themes of isolation and recovery experiences: the onset of isolation, the process of isolation, and the process of recovery. Based on the key findings, recommendations were made to support young people's recovery from isolation. These included the need for long-term, systematic service provision, awareness raising, and 'safe spaces' for isolated youth.

현재 국내 고립청년 문제가 대두되면서 사회문제로 조명받고 있다. 서울시에서 진행한 '2022년 서울시 고립/은둔 청년 실태조사'에 따르면, 서울시 거주 청년 중 고립 상태에 있는 청년의 비율이 약 3.3%, 즉 9만 3천 명에서 9만 6천 명 사이로 추산된다. 본 연구의 목적은 고립청년의 고립 경험과 회복 경험을 심층적으로 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 청년 때에 고립을 경험한 연구참여자 7명을 대상으로 심층인터 뷰를 진행하고 질적 사례연구 접근법을 사용하여 분석했다. 분석 결과, 고립 경험과 회복 경험에 대한 3개의 주제(고립 시작, 고립과정, 회복과정). 9개의 상위범주, 19개 하위 범주로 정리되었다. 주요 결과를 바탕으로 고립청년의 회복과정에 대한 정보를 정리하여, 지원 방안을 개선하기 위한 제언이 이루어졌다. 이 제안은 고립청년을 장기적이고 체계적인 서비스 제공, 인식 개선, '안전한 공간'의 필요 등의 관점에서 제시되었다.
