This study reflexively explores the identity tensions and conflicts that acafan—scholars who are simultaneously fans and researchers—experience during the process of fandom research. Using autoethnography, which employs the researcher as an interpretive tool, this study provides concrete descriptions of both the research context and the researcher's background while offering honest critical reflections. To help readers think and feel through narrative, the findings are presented using the Greek myth of Daedalus and Icarus, reconstructing the acafan’s journey in accessible language. Through the metaphors of “the arrogance of creating a perfect labyrinth,” “the trap of familiar wings,” and “Icarus’s wings,” this study candidly describes three key experiences: how fandom experience paradoxically constrained research site access, how indigenous fandom knowledge became a source of bias in new research contexts, and how increased involvement in fandom created tensions at the identity boundary between researcher and fan. This study ultimately emphasizes that researcher positionality is performative and fluid rather than fixed, suggesting that researchers must continuously reflect on their biographical contexts, indigenous knowledge, dual identity as both fan and researcher, and interactions with other fandoms. Furthermore, it demonstrates that the dual positionality of acafans should not be viewed merely as a source of tension and conflict, but rather as a methodological resource that enables deeper interpretations of fandom activities.

본 연구는 팬이자 동시에 연구자인 아카팬(Acafan)이 팬덤 연구 과정에서 발생하는 정체성 간의 긴장과 갈등을 성찰적으로 탐구한 것이다. 이를 위하여 연구자 자신을 해 석의 도구로 활용하는 자문화기술지로 연구 현장과 연구자의 맥락을 구체적으로 기술 하고 연구자의 비판적 성찰을 진솔하게 담아냈다. 그리고 그 결과를 독자들이 이야기 로 생각하고 느낄 수 있도록 그리스 신화의 다이달로스와 이카루스 신화를 차용하여, 팬이자 연구자인 아카팬의 여정을 일상적인 언어로 재현하였다. 즉, ‘완벽한 미궁을 만 들겠다는 오만’과 ‘익숙한 날개의 함정’, ‘이카루스의 날개’라는 은유를 통하여 팬덤 경험 이 오히려 연구 현장 진입의 제약으로 기능한 경험, 토착화된 팬덤 지식이 새로운 연구 현장에서 편견으로 작용한 경험, 팬덤에의 관여 수준이 높아지면서 연구자와 팬이라는 정체성 경계에서 비롯된 긴장감을 솔직하게 서술한 것이 이 연구의 특징이다. 결국 이 연구는 연구자의 위치성은 고정적이라기 보다 수행적이고 유동적인 것임을 강조하고, 연구자가 자신의 생애 맥락과 토착화된 지식과 팬이자 연구자라는 이중적 정체성을 지 속적으로 성찰해야 함을 시사한다. 나아가 아카팬이라는 이중적 위치성은 단지 긴장과 갈등을 유발하는 요소가 아니라, 팬덤 활동에 대한 보다 깊이 있는 해석을 가능하게 하 는 방법론적 자원으로 기능할 수 있음을 보여준다.
