The global box office success of K-pop has significantly contributed to the growth of the domestic music industry. However, this success has also led to a disproportionate focus on idol music, resulting in a biased market structure. To address this issue, there is an urgent need for research aimed at promoting the production of music and musicians across a wider range of genres. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to propose solutions to this genre bias by focusing on the diversification of musical genres. As a research method, this study reviews the importance of genre diversification, establishes a theoretical foundation for balanced industry development, and examines the necessity of policy support to mitigate the current bias. In particular, the study compares the United Kingdom’s music infrastructure support policies with those of South Korea, highlighting the limitations of domestic measures and identifying areas for improvement. Through this comparative analysis, the study underscores the relationship between music infrastructure and genre diversity. While the UK implements direct forms of support, Korea's support remains largely indirect and focused primarily on performances, thereby revealing the need for more direct and comprehensive support mechanisms in the Korean context. It is hoped that the findings of this study will contribute to laying the groundwork for Korea to become a cultural powerhouse by improving concert hall support initiatives, revitalizing small-scale popular music venues, and ultimately addressing the issue of genre imbalance in the domestic music market.

케이팝의 세계적인 흥행으로 국내 음악산업은 크게 성장했다. 하지만 그 이면에 아이돌 음악으로 편중된 시장이라는 부정적인 결과도 나타났다. 이러한 편중 현 상은 오랜 기간 해결되지 못했고, 이를 해결하기 위해 다양한 장르의 음악과 뮤지션 배출을 제고하기 위한 연구가 시급하다. 이에 본 연구의 목적은 음악 인프라 지 원사업 및 활성화를 통한 음악 장르 다양화를 중심으로 편중 현상 해결 방안을 제언하는 것이다. 연구 방법으로 음악 장르 다양화의 중요성과 균형발전의 이론적 기반 확립 및 편중 현상 해결을 위한 지원 필요성 고찰, 영국의 음악 인프라 지원 정책의 사례와 국내 사례를 비교하여 정책의 문제점 및 개선 필요성을 입증한다. 연구를 통해 음악 인프라와 장르 다양화의 연관성을 조명하였고, 영국의 직접적인 지원에 비해, 한국은 공연 중심의 간접 지원에 한정되어 있었으므로 한국의 경우 더 직접적인 지원의 필요성이 확인되었다. 본 연구가 공연장 지원사업의 개선과 이를 통한 소규모 대중음악 공연장 활성화 및 편중 현상 해소에 기여함으로서 문화 강국의 기틀을 다지는데 도움이 되길 기대한다.
