This study confirmed how the records related to the Prince Imhae’s judicial case(臨海君獄事) in Chu’an and Guk’an(『推案及鞫案』, The Records of Investigation and Adjudication) were compiled into Gwanghaegun Ilgi(『光海君日記』, The Annals of King Gwanghae). In addition, the compilation process was analyzed using various concepts of archival studies, with historical tradition-based historical criticism as the main agenda. In Chapter Ⅱ, I compared the articles on the Prince Imhae’s judicial case in the Chu’an and Guk’an one by one to see how they appear in the ‘jungchobon’ (中草本, the second draft) of Gwanghaegun Ilgi, and analyzed the differences. As a result, I was able to confirm cases where they were included without revision, revised, or deleted. In particular, unnecessary articles such as repeated statements were disposed of during the compilation process, and 499 out of a total of 544 articles were excluded. However, important articles necessary for understanding the case were selected and included according to the principles. In Chapter Ⅲ, I compared the ‘jungchobon’ and ‘jeongchobon’ (正草本, the final draft) of the Gwanghaegun Ilgi to examine how 240 articles related to the Prince Imhae’s judicial case were revised. As a result, we were able to confirm that the ‘jeongchobon’ had been revised to the extent of correcting errors or modifying the format according to the principles of compilation. As a result of examining the process by which the records of the Prince Imhae’s judicial case in Chu’an and Guk’an were compiled into Gwanghaegun Ilgi, it can be evaluated that the compilation process was carried out by an official with Custodianship appraising and selecting according to procedures and rules within the system. In addition, it was possible to reconfirm that the two records have all the characteristics of records such as authenticity, integrity, and reliability, and are credible records and materials that have undergone appropriate historical criticism.

본 연구는 『추안급국안』의 임해군 옥사와 관련된 기록이 『광해군일기』로 어떻게 편찬되었는지를 확인하고, 역사학의 전통에서 발달한 사료비판의 문제의식 위에서 기록학의 개념을 활용하여 편찬과정을 분석했다. Ⅱ장에서는 『추안급국안』의 임해군 옥사 기사가 『광해군일기』 중초본에 어떻게 수록되어 있는지를 비교하여 차이를 분석했다. 그 결과 수정 없이 수록된 경우, 수정된 경우, 제외된 경우 등을 확인할 수 있었다. 이중 편찬과정에서 반복된 진술 등 불필요한 기사가 산삭되어 총 544건의 기사 중 91.7%인 499건이 제외되었다. 그러나 사건 이해에 필요한 중요한 기사들은 원칙에 따라 선별되어 수록되어 있었다. Ⅲ장에서는 『광해군일기』 중초본과 정초본을 비교하여 중초본의 임해군 옥사 관련 기사 240건이 어떻게 정초본에 수록되었는지 알아보았다. 그 결과 정초본에서는 편찬의 원칙에 따라 형식을 수정하거나 오류를 바로잡는 정도의 수정이 이루어졌음을 확인할 수 있었다. 이처럼 편찬과정을 살펴본 결과, 『추안급국안』과 『광해군일기』은 관할권을 가진 관리가 제도 안에서 절차와 규칙에 따라 평가하고 선별하여 편찬했다고 평가할 수 있다. 또한 두 기록물은 진본성과 무결성, 신뢰성이라는 기록의 특성을 모두 갖추고 있으며, 적절한 사료비판을 거친 신빙성 있는 기록이자 사료임을 재확인할 수 있었다.
