This study examines the transformation of the discourse on “contagion” in Kim Jeong-han’s disease narratives, focusing on the interrelations among space, body, and governance. Centered on the locality of Busan, from the colonial period through the era of developmental dictatorship, this paper traces how infected bodies are spatially demarcated and politically mobilized. The analysis focuses on five major works—Oksimi, Old Lullaby, A Story at the Estuary, Ward No. 3, and The Human Settlement—where contagion figures as a central motif. By reading these texts alongside contemporary legislation and newspaper articles on infectious diseases, this study positions literary narratives as genealogical records of biopolitical operations. The findings reveal that during the colonial period, logic based on eugenic discipline emphasized quarantine and eradication, while in the developmental dictatorship era, discourses of management and normalization under international aid regimes prevailed. In both periods, infected bodies were segmented and distributed under the biopolitical control. However, Kim’s contagion narratives resist such reduction, instead revealing a literary space that ruptures oppression and imagines new forms of community. This suggests literature’s capacity to reconfigure bodily boundaries established by law and institutional power.

본 연구는 김정한의 질병서사에 나타난 ‘전염’ 담론의 변화 양상을 공간과 신체, 통치의 관계 속에서 고찰한다. 특히 식민지기부터 개발 독재기에 이르기까지, 부산이라는 지역의 장소성을 기반으로 한 전염 신체의 구획 방식과 그 권력적 작동을 추적하고자 한다. 분석 대상은 ｢옥심이｣, ｢묵은 자장가｣, ｢모래톱 이야기｣, ｢제3병동｣, ｢인간단지｣ 등 전염을 주 요 소재로 삼은 다섯 편의 소설이며, 당시의 전염병 관련 법령과 신문 기사 등을 병렬하여 독해함으로써 문학 텍스트 속 전염 신체의 정치적 함의를 도출했다. 그 결과 식민지기에는 우생학적 규율을 중심으로 한 격리와 박멸의 논리가, 개발 독재기에는 국제적 원조 체계 하에서의 관리와 정상화의 논리가 작동하였으며, 이 과정에서 전염된 신체는 통치 권력에 의해 분할되고 배치되었다. 그러나 김정한의 질병서사는 전염 신체가 단순한 통치의 객체 로 환원되지 않고, 오히려 억압에 균열을 내고 새로운 공동체적 가능성을 상상하는 문학적 공간을 창출함을 보여준다. 이는 법과 제도로 구획된 신체의 경계를 문학이 어떻게 재구성 할 수 있는지를 시사한다.
