The development of 21st-century digital technology presents new challenges and opportunities for traditional ecclesiology. In particular, Metaverse technologies offer churches the opportunity to transcend physical limitations and embody God's kingdom in innovative ways. However, a Metaverse-based church is not merely a digital adaptation of traditional church models; rather, it calls for a reconstruction of ecclesiology within technological, social, and theological contexts. This study explores the reconstruction of ecclesiology in the Metaverse era through seven key themes: the concept and future prospects of the Metaverse, the church’s existence and identity in virtual environments (Re-Churching), the spatiality of church, the essence and practice of worship (Re-Worshiping), the fellowship of believers in digital settings, church education in the Metaverse, and new possibilities and challenges for mission. Moving beyond the simple application of technological innovations to church ministry, this paper proposes a new ecclesiological framework that preserves the theological essence of church while expanding its potential within the Metaverse environment.

본고는 최근 인공지능(AI)을 비롯한 디지털 기술의 비약적 발전이 사 회 전반의 구조와 체계에 중대한 도전과 새로운 가능성을 제시할 뿐만 아 니라, 전통적인 교회론에 대한 재검토와 재구성을 요구하고 있음을 전제한 다. 특히 메타버스는 물리적 공간을 기반으로 한 기존 교회의 형태를 넘어, 사이버스페이스를 기반으로 한 새로운 공동체의 형성을 가능케 한다. 이러 한 변화는 하나님 나라의 확장을 위한 새로운 기회를 제공하는 동시에, 교 회를 단지 가상공간으로 이전하는 수준을 넘어서 교회론 전반에 대한 신학 적 재정립을 요청한다. 이에 본 논문은 메타버스 시대에 요구되는 교회론 의 재구성과 재해석을 위해 다음의 일곱 가지 주제를 중심으로 논의를 전 개한다. 먼저, 메타버스의 개념과 전망을 살펴본 후, 가상공간에서 교회가 존재하는 방식과 그 정체성을 조명하는 ‘재교회화’(re-churching), 교회의 공간성 개념을 존재와 관련하여 고찰하며, 가상 환경에서의 예배의 본질과 실행 양식을 탐구하는 ‘재예배화’(re-worshipping)를 논한다. 이어서 메타 버스 환경 속 ‘성도의 교제’, 디지털 기술을 활용한 ‘교회 교육’, 그리고 새 로운 형태의 ‘선교’의 가능성을 다룬다. 본 연구는 디지털 기술을 단순히 기존 교회론에 접목하려는 시도를 넘어, 메타버스라는 가상 환경 속에서도 교회의 본질을 온전히 유지하면서도, 그 환경에 적합한 새로운 교회론의 가능성과 신학적 틀을 제시하고자 한다.
