This study explores the development and implementation of micro-major programs as an innovative approach to fostering convergence education. Focusing on a case study of S University in the metropolitan area of South Korea, the research analyzes the current status of micro-major offerings across colleges and reviews enrollment trends. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews with students who completed micro-major programs, in order to evaluate the effectiveness and identify areas for improvement. The analysis revealed that the College of Business Engineering led the initiative with the highest number of programs and participants, including a noticeable influx of students from other colleges. Survey results showed that over 80% of respondents held positive perceptions of the micro-major experience, citing increased academic motivation and practical benefits. Interview findings further suggested the need to revise the credit requirement to ensure academic depth and coherence. In addition, students emphasized the necessity of enhanced institutional promotion, streamlined application procedures, and clearer notation of program completion in official academic records. These findings highlight the potential of micro-majors as a flexible, student-centered educational model that can complement traditional majors and support personalized academic and career pathways.

본 연구는 융합적 대학 교육 혁신 방안으로 주목받고 있는 마이크로전공 과정의 개발과 운영 사례를 바탕으로 마이크로전공 과정의 유용성과 향후 발전방향을 탐색하고 제안하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 수도권 에 위치한 S대학에서 개발, 운영중인 마이크로전공 과정을 소개하고, 단과대학별 운영 현황 및 전체 이수 현황을 분석한 이후, 과정 이수자들을 대상으로 설문과 인터뷰를 진행하였다. 실제 운영 사례에 대한 분석을 통해서 현행 마이크로전공 과정에 대한 평가와 더불어 향후 발전을 위해 필요한 사항들을 점검하였다. 운영 현황을 검토한 결 과, 경영공학대학의 마이크로전공 운영 및 타대학 학생 유입이 두드러지게 나타났고, 이수자 대상 설문에서 응답 자의 80% 이상이 마이크로전공 수강 및 효과에 대해 긍정적인 평가를 내렸다. 심층 인터뷰에서도 이수자들은 마 이크로전공 이수가 사회적으로 긍정적으로 인식되며 학업 역량 향상에 도움이 되었다고 평가했다. 사례분석 결과 를 종합해보면 마이크로전공은 단기 집중교육 과정으로서 학생들에게 유의미한 융합 교육으로서 자리 잡고 있으 며, 향후 마이크로전공의 확대와 발전을 위해서는 이수학점 조정, 학교 차원의 적극적인 홍보, 수강 절차의 간소 화, 이수 결과 표기 방식의 개선이 필요할 것으로 사료된다.
