Through a practical survey of students attending departments related to police science in Gangwon State, this study aimed to make an empirical analysis on the factors that affect their intention to continue study. Detailed results of research on the foregoing show that First, as a result of overall analysis on the survey targets, the higher the degree of career decision and the higher their satisfaction of university, intention to continue study was formed strongly. As for the research targeting enrolled students by each grade, results show that if lower graders such as freshmen and sophomores already decided to become a police officer or enter the field of criminal justice, or highly satisfied with university or department, their intention to continue study was also high. On the contrary, only the variable of career decision had a significant effect on the intention of students in higher grades to continue study instead of satisfaction of university or department. Therefore, the importance of nonsubject programs such as career counseling and support for finding employment or start a business has been emphasized more with a variety of learning support programs for enabling them to decide career that corresponds to the reality for high graders. Accordingly, it is considered that universities establishing a department related to police science need to operate a systematic education quality management system that can continuously improve educational services and the educational environment to increase students’ satisfaction with the university and department. And in order to improve the satisfaction of students majoring in police science with their major education, universities shall also continuously revise the major curriculum from a demand-oriented perspective and expand the basic learning support organization to strengthen the basic capabilities for effective major learning. Universities also need to keep developing and implementing various learning support programs by expanding diverse nonsubject education for enabling enrolled students to be immersed in life of university and department, and to enable them to enter the public service in field of criminal justice as well as smooth adaptation in their campus life. In addition, it is also considered necessary that universities need to expand administrative and financial support and institutional strategies to strengthen function and role of department supporting employment and business start-up or psychology counseling center for strengthening career and psychology counseling system, and provide university students majoring in police science with environment to receive high-quality career and psychology counseling through the foregoing.

이 연구에서는 강원특별자치도에 소재한 경찰학 관련 학과에 재학 중인 재학생들에 대한 실증 조사를 통해 이들의 학업 지속 의도에 영향을 미치는 요인을 실증적으로 분 석하고자 하였다. 이에 대한 구체적인 연구 결과를 살펴보면 먼저 조사 대상자에 대한 전체적인 분석 결과에서는 진로 결정의 정도가 높을수록, 대학 만족도가 높을수록 학업 지속 의도가 강하게 형성되는 것으로 나타났다. 재학생의 학년별로 나타난 연구 결과를 살펴보면 1, 2학년의 저학년 조사 대상자들 은 자신의 진로를 이미 경찰공무원이나 형사사법 분야로 결정한 경우, 그리고 대학과 학과에 대한 만족도가 높을 경우 학업 지속 의도 역시 높게 나타나는 것을 알 수 있었 다. 반면에3학년과4학년의 고학년재학생들은 대학이나학과만족도대신진로결정의 변인만이 학업 지속 의도에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 때문에 고학년 재학생에 대해서는 경찰공무원이나 형사사법 분야 공직 진출을 위한 다양한 학습지원 프로그램과 함께 현실에 부합하는 명확한 진로를 설정할 수 있도록 진로상담과 취창업 지원 등 다양한 비교과 프로그램의 중요성이 더욱 강조되고 있음을 알 수 있다. 따라서 경찰학 전공 관련 학과를 설치하고 있는 대학에서는 재학생들이 인식하는 대학과 학과 만족도의 향상을 위해 교육 서비스와 교육 환경을 지속적으로 개선할 수 있는 체계적인 교육 질 관리 시스템을 운영해야 할 것으로 보인다. 그리고 경찰학을 전공하는 재학생에 대한 전공 교육의 만족도를 향상시키기 위해 수요 지향적 관점에서 전공 교과과정의 지속적 개편을 도모하고 기초 학습 지원조직을 확대함으로써 효과적 전공 학습을 위한 기초적인 역량을 강화하도록 해야 할 것이다. 또한 재학생들이 대학과 학과 생활에 몰입할 수 있도록 다양한 비교과 교육을 확대 하여 대학 생활에 대한 원활한 적응은 물론 형사사법 분야 공직 진출을 위한 다양한 학 습지원 프로그램을 지속적으로 개발, 시행해야 할 것이다. 아울러 진로 및 심리상담 체계 강화를 위해 취창업 지원 부서나 심리상담센터의 기 능과 역할을 강화할 수 있는 행, 재정적 지원과 제도적 장치를 확대하고 이를 통해 경 찰학 관련 전공 대학생들이 양질의 진로 및 심리상담을 받을 수 있는 환경을 제공해야 할 것으로 보인다.
