Background: As Korea becomes a super-aged society, the demand for professional oral health care for older adults is increasing, and the role of dental hygienists is expanding. Methods: This study examined factors influencing the enrollment of dental hygiene students in the Geriatric Dental Hygiene and Practice course and explored their learning experiences and perceived educational needs. The findings indicated that the practical training environment, course schedule, and prior exposure to course information were key factors influencing enrollment. Satisfaction was significantly associated with students’ understanding of course objectives and their prior knowledge. Spearman correlation analysis revealed that satisfaction was positively correlated with goal awareness (ρ=0.72, p<0.001), prior information (ρ=0.52, p<0.05), and prerequisite knowledge (ρ=0.58, p<0.01). Qualitative responses frequently highlighted positive changes in students’ attitudes toward older adults, reflecting the emotional impact of the course. Results: These findings suggest that practice-oriented, clearly structured, and value-integrated curricula are essential. Recommendations include enhancing field-based training, clarifying educational objectives, and integrating emotional and ethical learning to prepare students for geriatric oral healthcare roles. Conclusion: This study provides empirical insights for curriculum development aligned with the needs of an ageing society.

한국이 초고령사회로 진입함에 따라 노인 대상 전문 구강관리 수요가 증가하고 있으며, 이에 따라 치과위생사의 역할도 임상 중심에서 지역사회 기반의 예방 중심 돌봄으로 확대되고 있다. 본 연구는 치위생학과 학생들의 ‘노인 치위생학 및 실습’ 교과목 수강 동기를 분석하고, 학습 경험과 교육적 요구를 탐색하였다. 분석 결과, 수강 결정 에 영향을 미친 주요 요인은 실습 환경, 수업 시간, 사전 정보 제공이었다. 수강 만족도는 교과목 목표에 대한 이 해(ρ=0.72, p＜0.001), 사전 정보(ρ=0.52, p＜0.05), 선수과목 지식(ρ=0.58, p＜0.01)과 유의한 양의 상관관계를 보였 다. 서술형 응답 분석에서는 ‘노인에 대한 태도 변화’가 가장 많이 언급된 주제로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 실습 중심, 명확한 구조, 가치 통합형 교육과정의 필요성을 강조한다. 특히 현장 기반 실습 강화, 교육 목표의 명확화, 정서적·윤리적 학습의 통합을 통해 고령사회에 적합한 구강보건 인력 양성이 가능함을 보여준다. 본 연구는 노 인 치위생 교육과정 개발을 위한 실증적 시사점을 제공한다.
