Background: This study addresses that gap by using ChatGPT, a generative AI model, to simulate interactive clinical English scenarios. Methods: This study involved 30 first-year students from the Department of Dental Hygiene at a university in Korea. A blended learning approach was implemented, combining offline lectures with AI-based English conversation exercises. Students played the role of dental hygienists, interacting with ChatGPT acting as virtual patients using standardized clinical scripts. Quantitative data were collected on students’ perceived proficiency and fear of AI usage before and after the course using a 4-point Likert scale. Crosstabulation analysis and Monte Carlo simulation-based chi-square tests were conducted using SPSS. Results: The analysis showed that students' proficiency in AI-based English conversation improved, while their initial fear of using AI significantly decreased. No statistically significant difference was found across score groups, suggesting a universally positive response to AI integration. Conclusion: The AI-enhanced environment improved students’ practical language skills and readiness for realworld patient interaction. These findings suggest that AI tools can offer scalable, adaptive models for strengthening healthcare communication and cultivating globally competent professionals.

연구의 배경 및 목적: 본 연구는 일부 치위생과에서 운영된 ‘치과 상담 및 진료 영어’ 교과목에 ChatGPT를 활용한 교수학습 사례를 소개하고, 향후 AI 기반 교육의 확장 가능성과 현장 적용을 위한 기초자료를 제공하는 데 본 연 구의 목적이 있다. 연구방법: 경기도 소재 대학 치위생학과 1학년 재학생 29명을 대상으로 혼합형 학습(blended learning)을 적용 분석 하였다. 학생들은 치과위생사 역할을 수행하며 가상 환자인 AI와 상호작용하였다. 수업 전후로 인공지능 사용 능 숙도와 두려움 수준에 대한 인식 자료를 4점 Likert 척도를 활용하여 수집하여 분석하였다. 결과: ChatGPT 기반 영어 학습을 통해 학생들의 사용 능숙도가 향상되었고, 초기의 두려움은 유의하게 감소하였 다. 성적 수준에 따른 유의미한 차이는 없었으며, 모든 집단에서 AI 활용에 대한 긍정적인 반응이 공통적으로 나 타났다. 고찰: AI 기반 학습 환경은 실제 진료 상황에 대비한 실용 언어 사용을 촉진하고, 반복적 상호작용을 통해 학습자 맞춤형·확장형 교수학습전략으로 적극적인 활용을 기대할 수 있다.
