This study examines the preservation status of sculptures exhibited in the Busan Biennale Sculpture Project (2002–2008) and proposes comprehensive conservation strategies. Over the past 20 years, many works have been maintained without systematic care, often by non-experts rather than professional conservators. To ensure the original form and functional restoration of these artworks, it is essential to document and catalogue them, conduct regular safety inspections, and classify them by preservation priority. Scientific conservation treatments should follow based on these assessments. Additionally, a system for collecting and managing original materials should be established to support future restoration efforts. The construction of dedicated storage and conservation facilities, along with the founding of a specialized research institute, is also necessary to support preservation, restoration, rotational exhibition, and replacement of artworks.

부산비엔날레 조각프로젝트(2002년∼2008년) 출품작의 보존현황을 조사하여 전시 중인 작품에 대한 전반적인 보존 방안에 대해 고찰해 보았다. 약 20년의 기간 동안 전시되고 있는 작품들의 보존 현황 조사 결과 대부분 보존⋅관리가 체계적으로 이루어지지 않고 있었으며, 전문가에 의한 보존처리가 아닌 비전공자 또는 일반 관리자에 의해 보존되고 있는 사례를 확인 하였다. 이렇게 관리되고 있는 출품작들의 원형 보존과 과학적 보존, 전시 기능의 회복 및 활용 을 위해서는 출품작에 대한 기록화와 목록화, 정밀안전진단과 정기조사를 통한 등급 분류가 필요하며, 이를 기반으로 과학적인 보존처리가 필요하다. 또한 작품에 사용된 소재를 수집하 고 관리하여 복원 시 제공해 줄 수 있는 시스템 구축 및 연구 기관의 설립, 작품의 컨디션 회복과 보존, 복원작업, 순환 전시, 작품 교체 등을 위한 수장, 보존 시설의 구축이 이루어져야 할 것이다.
