This study aimed to investigate investigators’ perceptions, satisfaction, and the perceived applicability of police statement analysis according to the types of implementation currently adopted in law enforcement. Three expert groups are responsible for conducting statement analyses within the Korean police system: externally commissioned experts, criminal profilers, and dedicated statement analysts. These groups differ in their specific analytical procedures and methods, as well as in the types of cases and individuals they assess. Accordingly, the study sought to determine whether perceptual or satisfaction-related differences exist among these groups, with particular focus on whether such differences are evident between investigators affiliated with the Chungbuk Provincial Police Agency—where a dedicated statement analysis system is in place—and those from other provincial agencies. A survey conducted with 379 investigators nationwide revealed that investigators from the Chungbuk Provincial Police Agency reported significantly higher levels of awareness and satisfaction regarding statement analysis compared to those from other provincial agencies. In terms of practical applicability, investigators recognized the necessity of assessing the veracity of statements regardless of case characteristics, the status of the individual involved, or their age. However, the lack of accessible information related to statement analysis appeared to hinder its effective utilization in practice. This study is an exploratory investigation into the use and potential expansion of statement analysis in police investigations. Based on the findings of this study and future research, it is necessary to explore and identify appropriate implementation models and operational procedures to enhance the utilization of statement analysis. Enabling field investigators to utilize statement analysis in a timely and effective manner is expected to contribute to improving professionalism and efficiency in police investigations.

본 연구는 경찰에서 시행 중인 진술분석 운영 형태에 따라 수사관들의 인식, 만족도 및 활용 가능성에 차이가 존재하는지를 실증적으로 분석하였다. 현재 경찰에서는 외부 위촉 전문가, 범죄분석관, 진술분석 관으로 구성된 세 개의 전문가 집단이 진술분석을 수행하고 있으며, 이들은 분석 절차, 방식, 대상자 및 사건 유형 측면에서 상이한 특성을 보인다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 전문가 집단 간의 차이를 검토하고, 특히 진술분석관 전담제를 운영하고 있는 충북경찰청 소속 수사관과 기타 시ㆍ도경찰청 소속 수사관 간 인식 및 만족도 차이를 분석하였다. 전국의 수사관 379명을 대상으로 설문을 실시한 결과, 충북경찰청 소속 수사관들이 진술분석에 대해 상대적으로 높은 인식 수준과 만족도를 보이는 것으로 확인되었다. 또한 사건 유형이나 대상자의 신분 및 연령과 관계없이 진술 진위 평가의 필요성은 전반적으로 인식되고 있었으나, 관련 정보 부족 등의 요인으로 인해 실질적 활용에는 어려움이 존재하는 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구는 경찰의 진술분석 제도 활용 현황과 확대 가능성을 탐색적으로 분석한 것으로, 후속 연구를 통해 진술분석 활용도 제고를 위한 적절한 운영 형태와 시행 방안을 모색할 필요가 있다. 수사 현장에서 수사관들이 진술분석을 보다 효과적이고 적절하게 활용할 수 있는 기반이 마련된다면, 이는 경찰 수사의 전문성과 효율성 향상에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
