The purpose of this study is to explore the characteristics of a “good school counselor” as perceived by elementary, middle, and high school students. To achieve this, data were collected online from 247 students who consented to participate in the study, through an open-ended question: “What kind of person do students perceive as a good school counselor?” The collected data were analyzed using text mining methods. The results revealed that the core keywords associated with a good school counselor were “empathy” and “solution.” Analysis of the underlying structure of students’ perceptions identified four distinct communities: (1) counselors who create spaces for humanistic communication, (2) counselors with tailored professional competencies, (3) counselors who mediate psychological instability, and (4) counselors who possess student-centered permissiveness. The findings are discussed in detail, and the implications and limitations of the study are presented.

본 연구의 목적은 초ㆍ중ㆍ고 학생들이 인식하는 ‘좋은 학교상담자’의 특성을 알아보는 데에 있다. 이에 따라 연구에 동의한 초ㆍ중ㆍ고 재학생 247명으로부터 ‘학생들은 좋은 학교상담자를 어떤 사람으로 인식하는가?’라는 개방형 질문을 통해 온라인으로 자료를 수집하였다. 수집된 자료는 텍스트 마이닝 분석 방법을 사용하여 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 학생들이 인식한 ‘좋은 학교상담자’의 가장 핵심이 되는 단어는 ‘공감’, ‘해결방안’으로 나타났다. ‘좋은 학교상담자’에 대한 인식의 하위구조를 분석한 결과 네 개의 커뮤니티로 나타났다. 네 개의 커뮤니티는 ‘인간적인 소통의 장을 창조하는 상담자’, ‘안성맞춤의 전문적 역량을 지닌 상담자’, ‘심리적 불안정을 중재하는 상담자’, ‘학생중심으로 허용하는 능력을 가진 상담자’로 명명하였다. 이와 관련된 내용을 논의하였으며, 연구의 의의와 한계를 함께 제언하였다.
