With easier access to online gambling, gambling problems among adolescents have become increasingly serious. Gambling is problematic in itself, but it becomes even more concerning when it leads to gambling-related crime, potentially reinforcing a deviant lifestyle. Accordingly, this study aims to examine the pathways to gambling-related crime among juvenile delinquents, based on General Strain Theory (GST). Specifically, it investigates whether financial strain caused by online gambling leads to gambling-related crime through the mediating role of negative affect. Furthermore, the study tests whether this pathway is moderated by the level of self-control among juvenile delinquents by analyzing moderated mediation effects. This study utilized survey data collected in 2022 from juvenile delinquents who were under probation. From the total respondents, 113 individuals who had experience with online gambling were selected for analysis. Using SPSS PROCESS macro, a moderated mediation analysis was conducted to test the research model. The results showed that financial strain had a significant direct effect on gambling-related crime; however, its indirect effect via negative affect was not statistically significant, indicating no mediating effect. In contrast, the moderated mediation effect of self-control was significant. The indirect effect through negative affect was significant only among those with low levels of self-control. This suggests that juvenile delinquents with lower self-control are more likely to respond to financial strain with maladaptive emotional reactions, leading to deviant behaviors such as gambling-related crime. This study is meaningful in that it empirically verified the pathway from financial strain to gambling-related crime in the context of online gambling, and identified self-control as a key moderating variable in this process. Based on the findings, policy recommendations were proposed to prevent the vicious cycle of gambling among juvenile delinquents.

온라인 도박에 대한 접근이 용이해짐에 따라 청소년의 도박 문제가 심각해지고 있다. 도박 은 그 자체로도 문제가 되나, 2차 범죄를 유발하여 일탈적 생활양식을 고착화할 수 있다는 점 에서 문제가 된다. 따라서 이 연구는 일반긴장이론을 기반으로 비행청소년의 온라인 도박으 로 인한 2차 범죄의 경로를 검증하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 구체적으로, 온라인 도박을 통해 유발된 재정적 긴장이 부정적 정서를 매개하여 2차 범죄로 이어지는 경로를 분석하였다. 또 한, 이러한 경로가 비행청소년의 자기통제력 수준에 따라 조절되는지 알아보고자, 자기통제 력의 조절된 매개효과를 검증하였다. 이 연구는 2022년 보호관찰 처분을 받은 청소년을 대상으로 실시된 설문조사 자료를 활용 하였으며, 전체 응답자 중 온라인 도박 경험이 있는 비행청소년 113명을 연구 대상으로 설정 하였다. 또한, 연구 모형의 검증을 위해 SPSS process macro를 활용하여 조절된 매개효과 분석을 진행하였다. 분석 결과, 온라인 도박 2차 범죄에 대한 재정적 긴장의 직접 효과는 유 의미하였으나, 부정적 정서를 통한 간접효과는 유의미하지 않아 매개효과가 나타나지 않는 것으로 확인되었다. 다음으로, 재정적 긴장이 부정적 정서를 매개하여 온라인 도박 2차 범죄 로 이어지는 경로에서 자기통제력의 조절된 매개효과가 유의미하였다. 이때, 부정적 정서의 간접효과는 자기통제력이 낮은 경우에만 유의미한 것으로 확인되었다. 이는 자기통제력이 낮 은 비행청소년의 경우, 재정적 긴장 상황에서 감정적 반응을 적절히 조절하지 못하고 일탈적 대응을 할 가능성이 높음을 시사한다. 이 연구는 온라인 도박 과정에서 경험하는 재정적 긴장이 부정적 정서를 매개하여 2차 범 죄로 이어지는 경로를 실증적으로 검증하고, 온라인 도박 2차 범죄의 경로에서 자기통제력이 중요한 조절변인으로 기능함을 확인하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 연구 결과를 기반으로, 도 박으로 인한 악순환을 예방하기 위한 정책적 방안을 제안하였다.
