This study explored the influence of social conformity on emotional desensitization among adolescents repeatedly exposed to hate speech in digital media environments. Utilizing secondary data from the Korea Youth Policy Institute (KYPI), the study analyzed responses from 4,859 adolescents who identified SNS and mass media as their primary exposure channels to hate speech. The results showed that both social conformity and social hate perception had significant positive effects on emotional desensitization. Gender differences were also found, with male students exhibiting higher levels of emotional desensitization than female students. However, the interaction effect between social conformity and social hate perception was not statistically significant, suggesting that social hate perception did not significantly alter the effect of social conformity on emotional desensitization. These findings suggest that adolescents’ emotional responses may not be sufficiently protected by cognitive awareness alone, and that repeated exposure combined with peer conformity can intensify emotional desensitization.

이 연구는 디지털 미디어 환경에서 혐오표현에 반복적으로 노출된 청소년을 대상으로, 사 회적 동조 성향이 정서적 둔감화에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 분석하고, 이 관계에서 사회적 혐오 인식이 어떠한 역할을 하는지를 함께 탐색하였다. 분석에는 한국청소년정책연구원의 2 차 설문자료를 활용하였으며, 혐오표현의 주요 노출 경로로 SNS와 대중매체를 지목한 청소 년 4,859명의 데이터를 기반으로 하였다. 분석 결과, 사회적 동조 성향과 사회적 혐오 인식 은 모두 정서적 둔감화에 유의한 정(+)적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 성별에 따라 남 학생이 여학생보다 정서적 둔감화 수준이 높은 것으로 확인되었다. 반면, 사회적 동조 성향 과 사회적 혐오 인식 간의 상호작용 효과는 통계적으로 유의하지 않아, 사회적 혐오 인식이 조절변수로서 유의미한 영향을 미치지는 않았다. 이 결과는 청소년의 정서 반응 구조가 단순 한 인식 변화만으로는 충분히 보호되지 않으며, 반복 노출 환경과 또래 집단 내 동조 영향력 이 감정적 둔화를 심화시킬 수 있음을 시사한다.
