Modern fashion integrates various art forms to express individuality and values. Origami techniques, as a form of formative art, are being applied in fashion design. Traditional Korean origami has unique historical and aesthetic qualities, but research on its modern reinterpretation is still limited. Meanwhile, athleisure fashion has rapidly grown since the pandemic, emphasizing practicality, breathability, and mobility. The foldable structure of origami enhances movement and, when applied to areas like the yoke or hips, improves flexibility. Additionally, origami patterns create air layers, increasing ventilation and maintaining airflow, ensuring a comfortable design. Applying folding techniques to areas requiring extra volume makes movement more dynamic and unrestricted. This study develops athleisure fashion integrating traditional Korean origami aesthetics, emphasizing either visual appeal or structural functionality. A literature review and case study analyze Korean origami and athleisure characteristics, leading to four fashion designs that merge aesthetics and function. Two highlight origami’s aesthetic appeal, while two enhance mobility and practicality. These designs improve ventilation and comfort, particularly in the back, hips, and thighs. However, some designs lack silhouette stability and functional storage. Future studies should refine shape retention and storage solutions. Expanding origami-based design can lead to more functional and innovative athleisure fashion. This research promotes creative fashion development harmonizing tradition and modernity.

현대 패션은 다양한 예술과 융합하여 개성과 가치관을 표현하는 방향으로 발전하고 있으며, 종이접기 기 법은 패션과 결합된 조형 예술 중 하나로 활용된다. 한국 전통 종이접기는 고유한 역사성과 조형미를 지니고 있지만 현대적 재해석과 창의적 패션 디자인 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 반면, 애슬레저 패션은 COVID-19 이 후 실용성, 통기성, 활동성을 강조하며 빠르게 성장한 분야로 자리 잡았다. 종이접기의 접히고 펼쳐지는 구조 는 착용자의 움직임을 자유롭게 하며, 요크나 골반 등에 적용하면 애슬레저 패션의 활동성을 강화할 수 있다. 또한, 접기 패턴을 통해 공기층을 형성하여 통기성을 높이기 때문에, 여유 분량이 필요한 부위에 적용하여 공기 순환이 원활한 쾌적한 디자인을 구현할 수 있다. 본 연구는 한국 전통 종이접기의 조형미를 활용하여 신체 움직임이 용이한 구조의 애슬레저 패션 디자인을 개발하는 것을 목표로 하였다. 이를 위해 문헌 연구 및 사례 분석을 통해 한국 전통 종이접기의 유형과 애슬레저 패션의 특징을 이론적으로 고찰하고, 조형미와 기능성을 결합한 4개의 애슬레저 패션 작품을 개발하였다. 디자인 개발 과정에서 두 작품은 종이접기의 조형 미를 형태적 요소로 강조하였으며, 나머지 두 작품은 구조적 요소를 활용하여 기능성과 실용성을 극대화하였 다. 이를 통해 직관적인 디자인을 구현하고 애슬레저 아이템의 다기능성과 활용도를 강화하였으며, 등, 골반, 허벅지의 활동성과 통기성을 향상시켰다. 또한, 폴리에스터 및 가방 심지 등의 소재 결합을 통해 창의성과 디자인 가능성을 확장하였다. 그러나 일부 아이템에서 실루엣의 안정성이 부족하고, 접은 공간을 수납 구조 로 활용하기 어려운 한계가 나타났다. 따라서 향후 연구에서는 형태 유지성을 개선하고, 접기 기법을 활용한 공간을 수납 구조로 변형하여 실용성을 극대화하는 방안을 모색할 필요가 있다. 본 연구는 전통성과 현대성 이 조화를 이루는 창의적 패션 연구의 지속적 확장을 기대하며, 애슬레저 패션의 디자인 가능성을 더욱 넓히는 데 기여하고자 한다.
