During the late Joseon period, musical performances by civilian musicians functioned as specialized activities that provided concrete economic compensation, rather than serving merely as a means of subsistence. This study examines one-time and sustained reward structures for musicians by analyzing the Sojonggye Yonghagi of the Nam Pyeong Mun clan in Yeongam and the Byeokgye Yeongyurok by Sim Dong-gyu, a Confucian scholar from Gangneung. Additionally, it investigates the cases of Yi Won-yeong and Gim Seong-gi, who received official appointments through elite patronage. Findings show that musicians received monetary payments for participating in local rituals and celebratory events, with higher compensation awarded based on skill and significance of role. Furthermore, patronage-based appointments reveal that musical expertise could enable access to official positions through social connections. This study demonstrates that musical labor by civilian performers in late Joseon society was recognized and compensated in specific, structured ways.

조선 후기 민간 음악인의 연주 활동은 단순한 생계유지 차원을 넘어 실질적인 경제적 보상을 수반하는 전문 활동으로 기능하였다. 본고는 전라남도 영암 남평 문씨가의 『소종계용하기』와 강릉 향공 심동규의 『벽계영유록』을 통해 단발적 행사 참여에 따른 보상 사례를 검토하고, 금사 이원영과 김성기의 사례를 통해 고위 관료의 후원이 가져온 제도권 편입 양상을 고찰하였다. 분석 결과, 민간 음악인은 지역 사회의 제의 및 축하 행사에서 일정한 경제적 보상을 받았으며, 역할의 중요도와 기량에 따라 보상액의 차등이 있었다. 또한 후원을 통한 관직 수여는 민간 음악인이 일정한 관계망을 통해 행정적 지위에 접근할 수 있었음을 보여준다. 본고는 조선 후기 민간 음악인의 연주 활동이 사회 안에서 일정한 대우와 기능을 부여 받았던 구체적 사례들을 통해, 전통사회에서 예술 활동의 실질적 기반을 확인하고자 하였다.
