This study attempted to conduct problem-based learning using movies and to examine learners' perception on it. This is to derive the learning effect through a problem based learning method that is different from the traditional method. The researcher tried to provide an unstructured realistic problem scenario and let students find a solution by collecting and analyzing data on it. The participants consisted of 49 students taking Media English, and the film ‘The Intern(2015)’ by Nancy Meyers was used as a teaching medium. Learners first understood the concept of problem-based learning and selected presentation topics among various social problems that appear in the film and they had many times to discuss on the problem. As a result of conducting problem-based learning over one semester and investigating learners' perceptions, they were highly satisfied with the method of approaching problem-based learning because they had a good experience to face a real problem and find hands on solutions with their own responsibilities.

본 연구는 영화를 활용한 문제 기반 중심의 수업으로 진행하고, 수업에 대한 학습자의 반응을 살펴보고자 하였다. 이는 기존의 전달식 교육(transmission)방식을 벗어나 비구조화된 현실적인 문제 시나리오를 구상하고 이에 대한 자료를 수집, 분석하여 해결책을 찾아가는 방식의 수업을 통해 학습효과를 끌어내기 위함이다. 연구 참여자는 미디어 영어를 수강하는 49명의 학생으로 구성되었고 학습자들이 수업 매체로 사용한 영화는 Nancy Meyers의 ‘The Intern(2015)’이었다. 학습자들은 문제 기반 학습에 대한 개념을 먼저 이해하고 영화에서 나 타나는 다양한 사회적 문제들에 대한 발표 주제를 선정하여 이에 관한 토론을 진행하였다. 한 학기에 걸쳐 문 제 기반 학습을 진행하고 학습자들의 반응을 조사한 결과 학습자들은 영화를 통한 문제 기반 학습에 대해 긍 정적인 반응을 나타내었고 특히 기존의 청해, 표현 중심의 영화 학습이 아닌 문제 기반 학습으로 접근하는 방 식에 대해 만족도가 높은 것으로 나타났다.
