The purpose of this study is to analyze the introductory phrases of Netflix drama using multimodal discourse analysis from systemic functional linguistics (SFL-MDA). The discourse meaning of each mode analyzed in this paper is as follows: First, 17 types of speech functions were examined, focusing on actual utterance effects rather than sentence ending forms. Second, the Appraisal meaning was analyzed based on Attitude, Engagement, and Graduation. Third, the Small clauses are discourse markers that are not syntactically connected to the components of the sentence, and either have independent intonation, or float around the sentence. Here, their meanings were like satellite to the meaning of the other modes. Fourth, prosody meaning was captured by the discourse of intonation, which often overlapped with Appraisal meaning but was much richer in emotional lines. Fifth, visual meaning was analyzed in three ways: compositional meaning, interpersonal meaning, and representational meaning. The semantic status of visual meaning with other modes was categorized according to Salway & Martinec (2005).

본 연구의 목적은 넷플릭스 드라마 <중증외상센터>의 도입 국면의 장면 들을 체계기능언어학의 멀티모달 담화분석(SFL-MDA)을 이용해서 분석 해 보는 것이다. 이를 통해서 드라마 제작자가, 시청자들에게, 영상을 통 해서 얼마나 다양한 언어적, 비언어적, 간모드적 담화의미를 전달할 수 있는지 확인해 보는 것이다. 본고에서 분석한 각 모드별 담화의미의 특징은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 발화 기능 의미는 종결어미 형태가 아니라, 실제 발화효과를 중심으로 17개 종류를 조사하였다. 둘째, 평가어 의미는 태도평가, 개입평가, 강도평가 의 어휘를 중심으로 조사하였다. 셋째, 소절(small clause)은 문장의 성분 과 통사적으로 연결되지 않으면서, 독립 억양으로 쓰여서, 문장 주위를 위성처럼 떠도는 담화표지들이다. 이런 소절의 의미는 다른 모드들의 의 미에 종속적으로 관여하였다. 넷째, 운율 의미는 억양의 화용적 정보에 의해 파악되었으며, 평가어 의미와 중첩되는 경우가 많았지만, 감정선이 더 풍부하고, 개성적이었다. 다섯째, 영상 의미는 구성적 의미, 상호작용 적 의미, 재현적 의미의 3가지로 분석되었다. 그리고 영상 의미와 다른 모드와 사이의 의미적 지위는 Salway & Martinec(2005)에 따라서 분류하 였다.
