This study introduces the concept of de-maternalization, a performative and affective rupture of normative motherhood that arises at the intersection of neoliberal governmentality and postfeminist discourse. Rather than simply rejecting motherhood, de-maternalization signifies a critical form of performative resistance-one that reiterates maternal norms in ways that expose their internal contradictions and ethical limitations. Focusing on the Netflix drama ≪The Glory≫(2022), the article analyzes three mother-daughter relationships-Mi-hee and Dong-eun (abandonment), Young-ae and Yeon-jin (hypocrisy), and Hyeon-nam and Seon-a (reconfiguration). These narratives dramatize how affective violence and emotional labor function within the contemporary logic of maternal performance. Drawing on Judith Butler’s theory of gender performativity, Sara Ahmed’s politics of emotion, and James Ferguson’s critique of neoliberal subjectivation, the study theorizes de-maternalization as a symbolic and embodied negotiation of social expectations, unstable affects, and ethical possibility. Ultimately, this framework reconceptualizes motherhood not as a static identity but as a contested field of normative repetition-especially in a time when care itself is increasingly privatized, instrumentalized, and responsibilized.

본 연구는 ‘탈-모성(脫母性)’ 개념을 통해 신자유주의 통치성과 포스트 페미니즘 담론이 교차하는 오늘날의 문화적 조건 속에서, 규범적 모성이 반복 수행되는 양상과 그 균열의 가능성을 분석하고자 했다. 탈-모성은 전통적 모성 신화의 거부에 머무는 반(反)-모성과는 구별되며, 규범의 반 복을 통해 차이와 전복 가능성을 생성하는 수행적 실천으로 이해될 수 있 다. 이를 위해 넷플릭스 드라마 《더 글로리》에 재현된 세 모녀 관계—정 미희–문동은, 홍영애–박연진, 강현남–이선아—를 중심으로 방기, 위선, 재 구성이라는 층위를 따라 모성 수행의 감정 정치적 양상을 고찰하였다. 분 석 결과, 탈-모성은 정동과 관계의 층위 속에서 감정 윤리를 재구성하고, 돌봄의 새로운 실천 가능성을 제기하는 하나의 수행성 장치로 기능함을 보여준다. 나아가 이러한 탈-모성적 실천이 사적인 정체성의 층위를 넘 어, 돌봄의 제도화와 공동체 윤리 구성이라는 공적 차원으로 확장될 수 있는지에 대한 이론적 질문을 남긴다.
