This study investigates how Koreans learn and use the Japanese expression “～ましょう (か)”, which has multiple functions such as suggestion, offering, command, and expression of the speaker’s will. Many Koreans mistranslate and misuse this expression due to direct translations of Korean expressions like “할까요?” and “할래요?”, which can give an unnatural or impolite impression when communicating with native Japanese speakers. A survey of 55 Korean university students revealed that their primary learning sources are textbooks with Korean explanations and translation apps, while few directly ask Japanese native teachers. However, an analysis of 33 beginner–level Japanese textbooks showed that most explanations primarily focused on the “suggestion” function, neglecting other semantic differences. Additionally, translation apps often provide inconsistent or inaccurate translations, reinforcing learners' misunderstandings. To address these issues, it is essential to enhance Japanese language educational materials by providing clear explanations of multi–functional expressions and developing more effective self– study tools. Future research should explore how learners become aware of polysemous words and establish usage criteria, aiming to improve Korean learners' communication skills in Japanese.

이 연구는 한국어 화자가 일본어의 “～ましょう(か)” 표현을 어떻게 학습하고 사용하는지를 조사한다. 이 표현은 권유(勧誘), 제안(申し出), 명령(命令), 화자의 의지(意志) 등의 기능을 가 지지만, 한국어의 “할까요?” “할래요?” 등의 표현과 직역하여 오용하는 경우가 많아 일본어 원어민과의 의사소통에서 부자연스럽거나 무례한 인상을 줄 수 있다. 한국 대학생 55명을 대상으로 한 조사에서는, 학습자들이 주로 한국어 설명이 포함된 일본 어 교과서와 번역 앱을 참고하며, 일본어 원어민 교사에게 직접 질문하는 경우는 적었다. 그 러나 초급 일본어 교과서 33권을 분석한 결과, 대부분이 “～ましょう(か)”의 권유 기능만 강조 하고 있어 다른 의미적 차이를 명확히 설명하지 않고 있었다. 또한, 번역 앱에서는 번역이 일 관되지 않거나 부정확한 경우가 많아 학습자의 오해를 더욱 강화할 가능성이 있었다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해서는 다의어(多義語) 표현에 대한 명확한 설명을 추가한 일본 어 교육 자료를 개발하고, 학습자가 스스로 올바르게 이해하고 연습할 수 있는 효과적인 자 습 도구를 제공할 필요가 있다. 앞으로의 연구에서는 학습자가 다의어를 어떻게 인식하고 사 용 기준을 어떻게 정하는지를 분석하여, 보다 자연스러운 일본어 사용을 돕는 방안을 모색할 것이다.
