In this study, there are five category of ‘Alcohol’ in Bashō's Haikai literature. The first is the category of romance and entertainment about ‘Alcohol’. The second category is courtesy and law. The third is an expression of ‘Alcohol’ depicting lonely reality. The fourth is a depiction of the poor life of Bashō through ‘Alcohol’. Fifth is the category of drunkenness and hangover. The taste of Bashō's alcoholic beverages analyzed in this study was not the style of drinking alcohol though it enjoyed drinking in everyday life. Bashō looked back at his life in a relentless reality through ‘Alcohol’. And Bashō realized the poor life through ‘Alcohol’. And it can be said that he was a literary man who lived a life that had made a meeting with many people and sublimated the joy and sorrow into his work through the medium of ‘Alcohol’.

본 연구에서는 바쇼의 하이카이 문학에 나타나 있는 ‘술’에 관하여 5가지로 분류하였다. 첫째는 술의 낭만과 취흥에 관한 분류이다. 둘째는 예의와 예법이라는 분류이다. 셋째는 고독 한 현실에 투영된 술에 관한 묘사이다. 넷째는 ‘술’에 묘사되어 있는 바쇼의 빈곤한 삶에 관 한 분류이다. 다섯째는 과음과 숙취라는 분류이다. 위에서 분석한 바쇼의 ‘술’에 관한 취향은, 일상생활 중에서 술을 즐기기는 하였으나 적극 적으로 술을 마시는 스타일은 아니었다. 하이카이 문학은 많은 사람들과의 교류를 통해서 하 이카이가 형성되고 발전하는 문학적 특징을 가지고 있다. 그 과정에서 ‘술’은 중요한 매개체 로 활용되었다. 바쇼는 ‘술’을 통해 냉혹한 현실 속에 있는 자신의 삶을 되돌아보았다. 또한 빈곤한 생활을 실감하기도 했다. 그리고 많은 사람들과의 만남과 희로애락을 ‘술’이라는 매개 체를 통해 자신의 작품으로 승화시켜갔던 삶을 살았던 문인이었다고 할 수 있을 것이다.
