The purpose of this study was to develop a home economics science curriculum, based on the home economics theories and philosophies, by applying the practical problem-based approach to curriculum development. This curriculum aimed at eleventh and twelfth grader, and focused on promoting the ability for an individual as a family and social person to solve practical problems s/he faces in everyday life in order to enjoy a happy life in the future society. This curriculum was composed of contents the learners could learn with interest, and concentrated more on building up the thinking power than the acquisition of knowledge. It was also developed to enable the learners to take in the changes of themselves, the family and the society. The curriculum developed through the study, centering around the practical problems of self, family and environments, consisted of "Development of myself," "I and the family life," and "I and the environments." It was to grow individuals into family and social persons and to unite the curriculum for the connection between each area, differently from the existing curriculum. This curriculum suggested in detail the objectives, the contents, the teaching/learning methods and the evaluation of home economics science

본 연구에서는 가정학의 이론과 철학을 바탕으로 실천적 문제 중심의 가정과학 교육과정을 개발하였다. 고등학교 2, 3학년을 대상으로 개발한 가정과학 교육과정은 미래 사회에서 행복한 삶을 영위할 수 있도록 가정인, 사회인으로서의 개인이 일상생활에서 부딪히는 실천적 문제를 해결할 수 있는 능력을 함양하는데 주안점을 두었다.본 교육과정은 학습자가 흥미를 가지고 학습할 수 있는 내용으로 구성되었고, 지식의 습득보다는 사고력 배양에 초점을 두었으며, 학습자가 자신과 가정 및 사회의 변화를 수용할 수 있도록 개발되었다. 본 연구에서 개발된 교육과정의 영역은 “나의 발달”, “나와 가정생활”, “나와 환경”으로 구성되었다. 이러한 구성은 가정인, 사회인으로서의 개인을 양성하고, 기존의 교육과정과는 달리 교육내용을 통합하여 각 영역간의 연계성을 유도하고자 한 것이다. 본 교육과정에서는 교육목표, 교육내용, 교수-학습방법, 교육평가를 상세히 제시하였다.
