This study aimed to explore the multifaceted caregiving experiences of family care workers who care for their husbands while occupying a dual role as both spouse and certified caregiver. Through two focus group interviews with six participants and thematic analysis, three main themes and eight sub-themes emerged: (1) challenges and conflicts in caregiving, including loss of personal and social life, physical limitations, and economic and informational constraints; (2) changes in the marital relationship, such as devotion, emotional turmoil, and role conflict; and (3) the discovery of meaning and commitment, marked by inner strength and fluctuating hopes for recovery. The findings underscore the need for emotional support, social network reinforcement, financial aid, improved access to information and education, balanced role distribution, and restoration of social relationships and leisure. This study provides critical insight into how the dual identity of spouse and care professional shapes caregiving and offers a foundation for developing supportive policies for family caregivers.

본 연구는 남편을 돌보는 가족요양보호사의 실제 돌봄 경험에 대한 다차원적 통찰을 얻고자 수행되었다. 가족 구성원이자 공식 요양보호사라는 이중 역할 속에서, 그들이 일상에서 직면하는 복합적 경험의 본질을 구체적 으로 분석하고자 하였다. 연구 방법으로는 남편을 돌보는 가족요양보호사 6명을 대상으로 2회의 포커스 그룹 인터 뷰와 주제 분석을 통해 자료를 해석하였다. 분석 결과, 돌봄 경험과 관련하여 3개의 주요 주제(돌봄 과정에서의 도 전과 갈등, 돌봄 속에서 변한 부부관계, 돌봄 여정에서의 의미 발견과 헌신)와 8개의 하위 주제가 도출되었다. 첫 째, 돌봄 과정에서는 개인적·사회적 삶의 상실, 신체적 부담의 한계, 경제적·정보적 제약이 확인되었고, 둘째, 부부 관계에서는 남편에 대한 무한한 헌신, 복합적 감정 혼란, 역할 갈등이 나타났다. 셋째, 돌봄 여정에서는 경험을 통 한 내면의 힘 획득과 기능 향상을 위한 희망과 실망이 반복되었다. 이러한 결과는 정서적 지원, 사회적 네트워크 강화, 경제적 지원 확대, 정보 및 교육 접근성 개선, 돌봄 제공자 역할의 균형 조정, 그리고 사회적 관계 회복 및 여가 보장의 필요성을 시사한다. 본 연구는 가족이자 전문 돌봄 인력이라는 이중 정체성이 돌봄 실천에 어떤 영향 을 미치는지 조명함으로써, 향후 가족 돌봄 지원 정책의 실천적 방향을 마련하는 데 기초자료로 활용될 수 있다.
