This study analyzes the act of “seeing” in the poetry of Ki Hyung -do, focusing on how the poetic subject observes the Other and how such observation shapes the subject’s perception and worldview. The poetic subject in Ki Hyung-do’s work is positioned on the margins or boundaries of the world and maintains the stance of a detached observer. While maintaining a certain distance, the subject identifies with the Other, projecting inner wounds and desires through this identification, and expresses sympathy and self-reflection. Based on Jacques Lacan’s theory of the gaze and Jean-Paul Sartre’s notion of the Other, this paper examines how the poetic subject reflects upon and reconstructs their identity through the mediated presence of the Other. Special attention is paid to the structural characteristics of Ki Hyung-do’s poetry, in which the subject internalizes the Other through sustained observation, thus forming a poetic narrative. The study ultimately explores how despair, loneliness, and dialectical expressions of hope are represented in his work. This analysis aims to shed light on the ontological questions and poetic contemplation of human existence inherent in Ki Hyung-do’s poetry.

본 논문은 기형도 시에 나타난 시적 주체의 ‘보다’라는 행위를 중심으로, 타자에 대한 관찰과 그로부터 발생하는 타자 인식의 양상을 분석함으 로써 기형도 시의 시적 주체 형성과 내면 세계, 나아가 세계 인식 방식을 고찰하고자 한다. 기형도의 시적 주체는 경계 혹은 주변부에 위치하며, 세계를 응시하는 관찰자의 태도를 견지한다. 이때 시적 주체는 타자와 일정한 거리감을 유지하면서도 동일시를 통해 내면의 상처와 욕망을 투 영하며, 타자에 대한 연민과 자기 성찰을 드러낸다. 본 연구는 라캉의 응시 이론과 사르트르의 타자 인식 개념을 이론적 토대로 삼아, 시적 주 체가 타자라는 거울을 통해 자신을 성찰하고 주체의 정체성을 재정립하 는 과정을 분석하였다. 특히 타자를 응시하고 내면화하는 방식으로 시적 서사를 형성하는 기형도 시의 구조적 특성에 주목하며, 시적 주체가 구현 해내는 절망과 고독, 그리고 희망에 대한 변증법적 발화를 중심으로 논의 를 전개하였다. 이러한 고찰은 기형도 시에 내재된 존재론적 물음과 인간 실존의 고통에 대한 시적 사유를 조명하는 데 의의가 있다.
