This study began with the premise that "significant history" is history connected to students' own life experiences, and sought ways to support such historical learnin g. From this perspective, it explored the educational potential of oral history. To thi s end, the oral life history of a woman born in 1932—who lived through the major events of modern and contemporary Korean history, including the Japanese colonia l period, the Korean War, and the military regime—was examined. The interviewee was considered suitable for this study as she experienced these historical turning poi nts as a woman, wife, and mother. Historicizing the life of a woman holds significa nce in that it presents students, who are typically exposed to textbook narratives ce ntered on male historical figures and heroic events, with diverse historical subjects a nd experiences. Through four sessions of oral interviews, transcription, and analysis, the study un covered the historical experiences and scars embedded in the surface-level narratives of the interviewee. An additional interview with a family member was conducted to deepen the understanding of the relational contexts within the oral history. Key the mes such as the lack of educational opportunities for women, the trauma of the Kor ean War, and the roles of a wife and mother of six were identified. Based on this life story, the study attempted a bottom-up approach to historical writing. In doing so, it highlighted the superficial nature of oral narratives and endeavored to reveal "wh at is remembered and how it is remembered." A history learning model based on th ese oral records was also proposed. The findings suggest that women's oral histories can complement the limitations of textbook narratives and provide students with more diverse perspectives in under standing history, thereby confirming the educational value of oral history. This stud y is significant in applying underexplored women's oral life histories to history educ ation, with a focus on gendered experiences and perspectives. However, a limitation remains in that the proposed learning model adopts a passive approach, with stude nts not directly engaging in the processes of interviewing, transcribing, or writing h istory. Future research should address this limitation through more active student p articipation.

이 글은 학생들에게 ‘의미 있는 역사’란 학생 자신의 삶의 경험과 연결 된 역사라고 보고, 이를 위한 역사학습 방안을 찾는 과정에서 출발했다. 이러한 지점에서 구술사 교육의 가능성을 발견하고자 했다. 이를 위해 1932년에 태어나 일제강점기부터 한국전쟁, 군사정권 등 한국 근현대사 의 격동기를 몸소 겪은 여성의 구술 생애사를 연구했다. 한국 근현대의 격 동기라고 부른 굵직한 사건들을 여성이자 아내, 어머니로서 어떤 삶을 살 았는지 보기에 적합한 구술자라고 판단했기 때문이다. 또 여성의 생애를 역사화 하는 작업은 그 동안 역사적 인물, 영웅, 남성 중심의 텍스트를 중 심으로 한 교과서 서술에 익숙해져 있을 학생들에게 다양한 역사적 주체 와 그 경험들을 보여 줄 수 있다는 점에서 의미가 컸다. 총 4회에 걸친 구술 면담과 채록, 분석과정을 통해 구술의 표층성 속 에 담긴 여성의 시대 경험과 역사적 상흔들을 발견하고 정리했다. 또 구 술자의 가족의 구술 면담을 1회 추가로 진행하여 여성의 구술에 담긴 다양한 관계성을 충분히 이해하고자 했다. 여성으로서 교육 받지 못한 경험, 한국전쟁의 상처, 남편의 아내이자 육남매의 어머니로서의 역할 을 연구 주제로 발견하고, 여성의 생애를 바탕으로 한 밑으로부터의 역 사쓰기를 시도했다. 그 과정에서 여성의 목소리에 담긴 구술의 표층성 을 확인하고 ‘무엇을 어떻게 기억하는가’를 드러내기 위해 노력했다. 또 한 이러한 과정으로 정리한 구술 채록 자료를 바탕으로 한 역사학습 방 안을 제안했다. 그 결과 여성 구술 자료는 교과서 텍스트의 서술상 한계를 보완해 주고, 다양한 관점의 역사이해를 가능하게 한다는 점에서 구 술사 교육의 가능성을 발견했다. 본 연구는 그 동안 구술사 교육 분야에서 주목받지 못했던 여성 구술 생애 사 연구를 통해 여성으로서의 시대 경험과 젠더의 차이에 주목하고 이를 역 사교육에 적용하였다는 점에서 의미가 있다. 하지만 이 글에서 제안한 구술 자료를 활용한 역사학습 방안은 학생들이 구술 면담부터 채록, 역사쓰기 과 정을 직접 실행하는 것이 아닌 소극적 형태를 띤다는 점에서 아쉬움이 있다. 따라서 이러한 과제는 이후의 작업으로 보완하고자 한다.
