This study aims to explore future directions for the development of art therapy utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) based on an analysis of previous research. A total of 28 papers published between 2003, when the first AI-related art therapy research appeared in Korea, and 2022 were analyzed. The findings revealed that while the first study was published in 2003, research activity notably increased following the emergence of COVID-19, as the need for social distancing and psychological support grew. Regarding research content, the majority of studies focused on the analysis of clients’ artwork, particularly emphasizing free drawing. In terms of AI technologies, most studies explored expert systems that combined deep learning and natural language processing. Furthermore, it was identified that current research is predominantly developer-centered. To advance the field, it is necessary to more actively integrate the specialized knowledge of art therapy experts. Given the rapid advancement of AI technologies, it is anticipated that convergence research combining AI and art therapy will become increasingly active, contributing to the evolution of the field.

본 연구는 인공지능을 활용한 미술치료에 관한 선행연구 분석을 토대로 앞으로의 발전 방향을 모색하는데 목적이 있다. 본 논문에서는 선행연구 분석을 위해 국내에서 AI를 활 용한 미술치료 관련 연구 결과가 최초로 발간된 2003년부터 2022년까지 발표된 논문 28 편을 분석하였으며, 그 결과 첫째, AI를 활용한 미술치료 연구는 2003년 학술지를 통해 처음 발표되었으나 코로나19로 인한 사회적 거리두기와 심리적 돌봄의 필요성이 대두되 면서 더 많은 연구가 이뤄지기 시작하였다. 연구 내용에서는 내담자의 그림분석에 대한 연구가 가장 많았으며 구체적으로 자유화에 대한 분석이 주를 이루었다. AI 기술별 분석 을 보면 딥러닝과 자연어처리가 함께 사용된 전문가 시스템에 관한 연구가 가장 많았다. 둘째, AI를 활용한 미술치료는 미술치료와 공학이라는 두 학문의 융합으로 현재 개발자 중심연구에서 미술치료 전문가의 전문지식을 적극적으로 활용할 필요성이 있다. 인공지능 기술이 급속도로 발전하고 있는 시점에서 미술치료 영역에서도 인공지능을 활용한 미술 치료의 융합연구가 더 활발히 이뤄지기를 기대한다.
