This study aims to suggest a direction for popularizing the equestrian industry by analyzing the factors that hinder the popularization of the equestrian industry. To this end, we conducted a topic model analysis on negative perceptions of equestrianism based on news articles related to equestrianism reported in the media. As a result of the analysis, negative news articles on equestrianism were classified into four main topics: 1) animal abuse at the Olympics, 2) elite equestrians deviations and social perception, 3) safety issues and public perception, 4) equestrian privileges and political scandals. This study is significant in that it empirically derived the negative perceptions of the public that hinder the popularization of horseback riding, and specific efforts should be made by related organizations to improve the negative perceptions of horseback riding shown in this study. In future studies, in-depth research should be conducted to maximize positive perceptions of horseback riding.

본 연구의 목적은 승마산업 대중화 발전의 저해요인이 무엇인지를 분 석함으로써 승마산업의 대중화에 기여하는데 있다. 이를 위해서 국내 언 론에 보도된 승마 관련 뉴스 기사를 토대로 승마에 관한 부정적 보도 경 향에 관한 토픽모델링 분석을 수행하였다. 분석 결과 승마에 대한 부정 적 뉴스 기사는 첫째, 올림픽에서의 동물 학대, 둘째, 엘리트 승마 선수 의 일탈과 사회적 인식, 셋째, 안전 이슈 및 대중 인식, 넷째, 승마 특혜 와 정치적 스캔들 등 네 가지 주요 토픽으로 분류되었다. 본 연구는 결 과는 승마 대중화를 저해하는 언론의 승마 관련 부정적 이슈를 실증적 으로 도출하였다는 점에서 의의가 있으며, 본 연구에서 나타나는 승마에 대한 부정적 인식을 개선하기 위한 관련 단체의 제도적 개선이 이뤄져 야 할 것이다. 향후 연구에서는 승마에 대한 긍정적 인식을 극대화하기 위한 다각적이고 실증적인 연구가 이뤄져야 할 것이다.
