This study aims to analyze Gong Ok-jin’s Byeongsin-chum through the lens of Tobin Siebers’ disability aesthetics. It investigates how the dance intervenes in normative body aesthetics, how it expresses disability through sensory perception, and what artistic and political meanings it generates. The research employs a literature-based methodology, analyzing domestic and international studies on Gong Ok-jin and Byeongsin-chum, along with related folk performance discourses and disability aesthetic theories. The findings are as follows: First, Byeongsin-chum subverts normative aesthetics through embodied expression and affective engagement. Second, the dance represents disability as a central aesthetic element through sensory and affective dynamics, rather than mere imitation. Third, it functions as a form of artistic and political intervention by bringing marginalized bodies to the center of artistic language. This study contributes to expanding disability art discourse and exploring the potential of aesthetic practices as tools for social engagement.

이 연구는 토빈 시버스의 장애미학 이론을 바탕으로 공옥진의 병신춤이 규범적 신체 미학에 어떻게 개입하고, 장애를 어떤 미적 시선과 감각의 흐름 속에서 표현하며, 궁극적으로 어떤 예술적 가치와 정치적 의미를 생성하 는지를 밝히는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 문헌연구 방법을 적용하였으며, 공옥진과 병신춤에 대한 국내 연구 자료, 민속예술 관련 담론, 그리고 장애미학 이론을 종합적으로 분석 틀로 구성하였다. 그 결과, 첫째, 병신춤은 신체 표현과 감응의 실천을 통해 정상성 중심의 미학을 교란하고 새로운 감각 질서를 창출하는 수행이었다. 둘 째, 병신춤은 장애를 감각의 흐름과 감응의 층위에서 구성하며, 단순 재현을 넘어 미적 중심 요소로 드러내는 예술적 실천이었다. 셋째, 병신춤은 예술적 가치와 함께 사회적 주변성을 발화하고 소외된 신체를 예술의 언어 로 재배치하는 정치적 수행이었다. 따라서 이 연구는 병신춤을 장애미학의 실제 사례로 조명함으로써 장애예술 담론의 이론적 확장은 물론 예술을 통한 사회적 감응의 가능성까지 제시할 것으로 기대한다.
