Throughout the biblical narrative, the community of God’s people has continually reshaped its form in response to new circumstances in order to fulfill its missional purpose. In other words, every new historical phase has called the church to reawaken its missional identity and adapt accordingly. In particular, following the ascension of Jesus and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, the inclusion of Gentiles created a new reality in which God’s people came to understand themselves as a missional community, initiating a transition from a mono-cultural synagogue to a multicultural church. This was not merely a surface-level change, but a profound theological turning point that redefined the church’s identity and mission. Likewise, today’s church must recognize the multicultural context not as a sociocultural trend, but as an urgent missional reality. It must re-identify itself as a missional community and actively pursue transformation into a multicultural body for the sake of mission. This shift requires, first, a change in perception toward migrants. The early church experienced renewed vitality through its embrace of Gentiles, and in the same way, today’s church must recognize that engagement with migrants can restore its vitality and lead to greater missional maturity. This reveals that becoming a multicultural church is not optional, but a necessary journey in realizing the church’s core mission. Second, following the example of the Apostle Paul—who did not treat Gentiles merely as targets of evangelism but as co-laborers in mission—the church must help all members, including migrants, to understand and embrace the calling and responsibility of the Abrahamic covenant. It must also develop a structure of polycentric leadership that reflects the diversity of its members. Such transformation calls the church to move beyond superficial acceptance of migrants and toward deep, participatory inclusion. As demonstrated by the church in Antioch and Paul’s missionary approach, the church must raise up individuals from various cultural backgrounds not as passive recipients, but as active partners in mission. Through this process, the church’s mission can mature from a mission for migrants, to a mission with migrants, and ultimately to a mission through migrants empowered by the Holy Spirit. Ultimately, as the church prepares for mission in a multicultural society alongside migrants, it can position itself as a trustworthy and faithful community, fully responding to the urgent calling of this era.

하나님의 백성 공동체는 성경 내러티브에서 만나는 새로운 상황들 속에서 자신의 선교적 목적을 이루기 위해 끊임없이 형태를 변화시켰다. 다시 말해, 시대의 새로운 국면들은 교회가 자신의 선교적 본질을 새롭게 인식하고 변화해야 하는 시기임을 의 미한다. 특히, 예수님의 승천과 성령 강림 이후 이방인들이 함께 모이게 되는 새로운 상황 속에서 하나님의 백성은 자신을 선교적 사명 공동체로 이해하며, 단일문화적 회 당 공동체에서 다문화적 교회 공동체로의 전환을 시도하였다. 이는 표면적 변화를 넘 어, 교회의 정체성과 사명을 근본적으로 재구성하는 중대한 신학적 전환이었다. 따라 서 오늘날의 교회 역시 다문화적 환경을 단순한 사회 변화가 아닌, 긴박한 선교적 상 황으로 규정해야 한다. 나아가 교회는 자신을 선교적 사명 공동체로 재인식하고 선교 를 위한 다문화적 공동체로 변화해 나가야 한다. 다문화적 공동체로의 변화를 위해 첫째, 이주민들에 대한 인식의 전환이 요구된다. 초대교회가 이방인들과 함께함으로 교회에 생명과 활력이 충만했음을 기억하고 다문화 시대 이주민들을 통해 교회가 생 명력을 되찾고 선교적으로 성숙할 수 있음을 인식해야 할 것이다. 이는 다문화적 교 회로의 전환이 선택이 아니라, 교회의 본질적 사명을 실현하기 위한 필연적 여정임을 보여준다. 둘째, 이방인들을 단순한 전도의 대상으로 삼는 데 그치지 않고 그들을 선교적 동역자로 삼았던 사도 바울의 전략을 따라, 교회는 이주민들을 포함한 모든 구 성원이 아브라함 언약의 선택과 책임, 권리와 의무를 인식하도록 돕고 다중심적 리더 십(Polycentirc Leadership) 구조를 세워나가야 한다. 이같은 변화는 교회가 피상적으 로 이주민을 수용하는 태도를 넘어설 것을 요구한다. 안디옥 교회와 사도 바울의 사 례처럼, 교회는 다양한 문화적 배경을 가진 이들을 선교의 수혜자가 아닌 주체적 동 역자로 세워가야 한다. 이러한 과정을 통해 오늘날 교회의 선교는 하나님과 이주민을 위한(for) 선교에서, 주님과 이주민들이 함께(with)하는 선교로, 그리고 성령님과 이주 민들을 통한(through) 선교로 성숙할 수 있을 것이다. 결국, 교회는 이주민들과 함께 다문화 사회 속에서 펼쳐질 선교 사역을 준비해 가는 과정 속에서, 시대가 요구하는 사명에 응답하는 신뢰받는 공동체로 자리매김할 수 있다.
