In German Protestantism, baptism is understood not merely as a ritual act but as a significant spiritual turning point, representing the human response to God's grace and the beginning of a new life within the faith community. In the Lutheran tradition, baptism is regarded as the "seal of God," confirming His promise of salvation; through it, individuals gain assurance of salvation and establish their identity as members of the community. This theological understanding is deeply reflected in baptismal preparation education, which aims not merely at conveying doctrinal knowledge but also at helping participants reflect on the essence of faith and cultivate a sense of communal responsibility. However, contemporary German society, marked by increasing secularization and religious pluralism, faces growing religious indifference, particularly among the younger generation. Consequently, the traditional knowledge-centered model of baptismal preparation is reaching its limits, and there is a growing need for an educational shift that incorporates the life context of participants and fosters practical faith formation. Nevertheless, systematic academic research on the specific structure and pedagogical approaches of baptismal preparation remains insufficient. The rising number of adult candidates for baptism and the increasing role of parents in infant baptism suggest the need for more tailored educational programs, yet analysis in this area is still lacking. Against this backdrop, this thesis aims to conduct an in-depth reflection on the theological principles and educational goals of baptismal preparation in the context of the German Protestant Church. It seeks to examine how baptismal preparation fosters the faith maturity and communal responsibility of participants within the faith community, while also comparing and analyzing educational processes for adult candidates and for parents of infant baptismal candidates. To this end, it is essential to review the theological and historical background of baptism, to explore how the meaning of baptism has evolved in contemporary society, and to analyze the components and pedagogical characteristics of baptismal preparation. By examining actual educational practices and engaging with pedagogical discussions, this study seeks to identify current challenges and propose improvements. Through this analysis, the research aims to reassess the significance of baptismal preparation in German Protestantism and contribute to contemporary church education. Furthermore, it is expected that the findings of this study will offer educational directions that can help faith communities in contemporary Korean churches effectively transmit faith and strengthen their communal identity.

독일 개신교에서 세례는 단순한 의례를 넘어 하나님의 은혜에 대한 인간의 응답이 자, 신앙 공동체의 일원으로 새롭게 태어나는 중요한 신앙적 전환점으로 이해된다. 루 터교 전통에서는 세례를 하나님의 구원의 약속을 확증하는 ‘하나님의 인호(印號)’로 보고, 이를 통해 개인은 구원의 확신을 얻으며 공동체의 일원으로서 정체성을 확립한 다. 이러한 신학적 이해는 세례 준비 교육에도 깊이 반영되어, 단순한 교리 전달에 그 치지 않고 참여자들이 신앙의 본질을 성찰하고 공동체적 책임 의식을 형성하도록 돕 는다. 그러나 현대 독일 사회는 세속화와 종교적 다원주의 확산으로 종교적 무관심이 증가하고 있으며, 특히 젊은 세대에서 이러한 경향이 두드러진다. 이에 따라 기존의 지식 전달 중심 세례 교육은 한계에 직면하고, 참여자의 삶의 맥락을 반영하며 실천 적 신앙 형성을 지향하는 교육적 전환이 요구되고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 세례 준 비 교육의 구체적 구조와 교수학적 접근 방식에 대한 체계적인 학술 연구는 여전히 부족한 상황이다. 성인 세례자 증가와 유아 세례 보호자 역할 증대는 맞춤형 교육 필 요성을 시사하나, 분석이 부족하다. 본 논문은 이러한 문제의식을 바탕으로 독일 개신 교 교회를 중심으로 세례 준비 교육의 신학적 원리와 교육학적 목표를 심층적으로 성찰하고자 한다. 세례 준비 교육이 신앙 공동체 안에서 참여자의 신앙적 성숙과 공동 체적 책임 의식을 어떻게 형성하는지를 고찰함과 동시에, 성인 세례자와 유아 세례자 의 보호자를 위한 교육 과정을 비교 분석하는 작업이 필요하다. 이를 위해 세례의 신 학적 및 역사적 배경을 검토하고, 현대사회에서 세례의 의미가 어떻게 변화하였는지, 아울러 세례 준비 교육의 구성요소와 교수학적 특징을 분석하는 것은 중요한 연구적 의의를 지닌다. 실제 교육 사례와 교육학적 논의를 통해 세례 준비 교육의 과제를 파 악하고 개선 방향을 제시함으로써, 본 연구는 독일 개신교 세례 준비 교육의 의의를 재조명하고 현대 교회 교육에 기여하고자 한다. 이러한 분석을 바탕으로 본 논문은 독일 개신교 내 세례 준비 교육의 의미를 재조명하고, 그 연구 결과가 현대 교회 교 육 현장에 주는 시사점과 개선 방향을 제안하는 데 목표를 두고 있다. 나아가 본 연 구는 현대 한국교회의 신앙 공동체가 효과적으로 신앙을 계승하고 공동체성을 강화하 는 데 도움이 되는 교육적 방향성을 제시할 것으로 기대된다.
