This study explores how pastoral counseling, as a field within practical theology, contributes to the process of Korean contextual theology through theological reflection. Korean Christianity developed not by merely adopting Western theology but by practicing faith within the historical and cultural contexts of Korean society, accompanied by early missionaries’ efforts at cultural adaptation. This theological trajectory has expanded into pastoral counseling that integrates multicultural perspectives, continually reinterpreting the meaning of the gospel within the interplay of faith and culture. The study establishes a methodology of theological reflection connecting theology and lived experience and applies it to analyze the faith narratives of Deaconess Hyung-Sook Yang, Deaconess Soon-Shim Oh, and Pastor Hyun-Joo Lee. Using categories such as lived experience, Christian tradition, culture (narrow, broad, ecological), and personal stance, it identifies how cultural elements-patriarchy, face-saving culture, materialism, and collectivism-are embedded in the faith and life attitudes of Korean Christians. The findings reveal that the process of Korean contextual theology involves reinterpreting personal weakness and suffering through faith, with a notable expansion of faith from personal salvation to communal service. This study highlights the need for pastoral counseling to transcend psychological care, serving as a practical theological endeavor that discovers and reconstructs theological meaning within lived experiences. It also proposes a methodology for uncovering indigenous culture through theological reflection, suggesting new directions for enhancing cultural sensitivity and practical application in pastoral counseling.

이 연구는 실천신학의 한 영역인 목회상담이 신학적 성찰을 통해 한국적 신학화 과정에 기여하는 방식을 고찰하는 데 목적을 두었다. 한국 기독교는 서구 신학을 단 순히 수용하는 데 그치지 않고, 초기 선교사들의 문화 수용 노력과 더불어 한국 사회 의 역사적·문화적 맥락 속에서 신앙을 실천하며 독자적인 토착화 과정을 거쳐왔다. 이러한 신학적 접근은 현대에 이르러 다문화적 관점을 반영한 목회상담으로 확장되었 으며, 신앙과 문화가 상호작용하는 구체적 삶의 자리에서 복음의 의미를 재해석하는 시도를 지속하고 있다. 이 연구는 신학과 경험을 연결하는 신학적 성찰 방법론을 정 립하고, 이를 바탕으로 한국 기독교인의 실제 신앙 경험을 분석하고자 하였다. 구체적 으로는 대중매체와 출판물을 통해 일반에게 공개된 양현숙, 오순심, 이현주의 신앙 이 야기를 사례로 선정하여, 각 인물이 체험한 삶과 신앙, 고난과 희망, 문화와 복음의 상호작용을 신학적으로 성찰하였다. 분석 과정에서는 생생한 이야기, 기독교 전통, 문 화(협의적·광의적·생태적), 개인적 입장 등의 범주를 적용하여 신앙 경험을 다층적으 로 조명하였다. 연구 결과, 한국적 신학화의 과정 속에서 드러난 주요 문화적 특수성 으로는 가부장제, 체면 문화, 물질 중심적 가치관, 집단주의가 확인되었으며, 이러한 요소들은 개인의 신앙 형성과 삶의 태도에 영향을 미쳤다. 각 사례에서 인물들은 가난, 수치심, 책임감의 무게와 같은 인간적 약함을 경험하면서도 신앙 안에서 자신을 새롭게 이해하고 재구성하는 과정을 거쳤으며, 신앙이 개인 구원에 머무르지 않고 공 동체적 섬김으로 확장되는 경향을 보였다. 또한 신앙은 단순한 개인적 내면 변화에 머무르지 않고, 사회적 연대와 공동체적 책임의식으로 발전하는 모습을 보여주었다. 이 연구는 목회상담이 단순한 심리적 치유를 넘어, 삶의 경험 속에서 신학적 의미를 발견하고 재구성하는 실천 신학적 역할을 수행해야 함을 강조한다. 또한, 신학적 성찰 을 통해 토착 문화를 발견하고 해석하는 방법론을 제시함으로써, 목회상담의 실천성 과 문화적 감수성을 심화하는 데 기여할 수 있음을 보여준다. 향후 목회상담 분야는 다양한 문화적 맥락을 고려한 신학적 성찰을 지속적으로 발전시켜야 하며, 목회자와 상담자의 통합적 신학·상담 역량 강화를 통해 신앙과 삶을 유기적으로 연결하는 실천 적 모델을 마련할 필요가 있다.
