This study aimed to explore the public health nurses' experience in COVID-19 outbreak. A descriptive qualitative research design with purposive sampling and network sampling was adopted. Qualitative data were collected from five nurses working at Public Health Centers in Busan through individual in-depth semi-structured interviews using a mobile phone from July 26th to August 16, 2020. All interviews were recorded with the consent of the participants and transcribed verbatim. The transcribed data were analyzed using traditional content analysis. Four categories and sixteen sub-categories emerged that described the experiences of public health nurses in combating COVID-19: (1) Being overworked mentally and physically; (2) Pleasing moments; (3) The need for improving disaster response system; and (4) Required competencies in disaster management These results could contribute to the establishment of policies for responding to emerging infectious diseases in public health centers. Further study will be needed to develop educational interventions for public health nurses to respond efficiently to emerging infectious diseases.

본 연구는 보건간호사의 코로나19 대응 경험을 심층적으로 탐색하기 위해 수행되었다. 본 연구는 서술적 질적연구로 의도 표본추출 및 네트워크 표본추출을 통해 보건소에서 최소 1년 이상 근무 중인 B 광역시 소속 보건간호사들을 선정하였으 며 총 5명이 된 상태에서 자료의 포화가 달성되었다. 자료수집 기간은 2020년 7월 26일부터 2020년 8월 16일까지였으며, 전화통화로 반 구조화된 개별적 심층 면담을 시행하였다. 면담내용은 참여자들의 동의하에 녹음되었으며, 면담 직후 전사되 었다. 자료분석을 위해 전통적 내용분석법을 적용하였다. 보건간호사의 코로나19 대응 경험에 대한 인터뷰 내용 중 의미 있 는 진술문으로부터 「몸도 마음도 지치게 만든 격무」, 「긍정의 기운」, 「개선의 필요성」, 「필요한 재난 역량」 등의 4개 범주와 16개의 속성이 도출되었다. 본 연구의 결과는 향후 보건소의 신종 감염병 대응 정책 수립에 기여할 것이며, 보건간호사의 효 율적인 신종 감염병 대응을 위한 교육의 개발과 이에 대한 효과검증을 위한 후속 연구가 필요하다.
