This study aims to compare and analyze the “lying strategies” and “truth-telling strategies” used by Korean and Japanese speakers in refusal situations, thereby elucidating the communication styles and cultural differences between the two nations. Specifically, it examines the differences and execution patterns of these strategies in refusal scenarios occurring during meal settings in Korea and Japan. The findings reveal that Korean speakers tend to prefer truth-telling in close relationships, whereas Japanese speakers are more inclined to use lying strategies to maintain relationships. Additionally, both groups exhibit a higher frequency of lying strategies as social distance increases, with the excuse-based strategy being the most preferred by both. This study provides educational implications for learners of both languages, helping them understand each other’s cultural contexts and acquire appropriate communication strategies. Notably, the use of DCT (Discourse Completion Test) scenarios and response patterns offers significant value as it facilitates learners in naturally acquiring communication strategies.

본 연구는 거절 상황에서 한국어와 일본어 화자들이 사용하는 ‘거짓말 전략’과 ‘참말하기 전략’을 비교･분석함으로써, 두 나라의 의사소통 방식과 문화적 차이를 밝히는 것을 목표로 한다. 특히, 한국과 일본의 식사 자리에서 발생하는 거절 상황에서 이러한 전략의 차이와 실행 패턴을 조사한다. 연구 결과, 한국어 화자는 가까운 관계에서는 참말하기 전략을 선호하는 반면, 일본어 화자는 관계 유지를 위해 거짓말 전략을 더 많이 사용하는 경향이 있음을 확인했다. 또한, 사회적 거리가 증가할수록 두 집단 모두 거짓말 전략의 사용 빈도가 높아지며, 그중에서도 변명(핑계) 전략이 가장 선호되는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 한국어와 일본어 학습자들에게 교육적 시사점을 제공하며, 상호 문화적 맥락을 이해하고 적절한 의사소통 전략을 습득하는 데 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다. 특히, 담화 완성 과제(DCT: Discourse Completion Test) 의 응답 패턴을 활용한 분석은 학습자들이 자연스럽게 의사소통 전략을 익히는 데 도움이 될 것이다.

일본어

本研究は、拒否の場面において韓国語話者と日本語話者が用いる｢嘘のストラテジー｣と｢率直なストラテジー｣を比較･分析することで、両国のコミュニケーションスタイルと文化的相違を明らかにすることを目的としている。特に、韓国と日本の食事の席で発生する拒否の場面において、これらの戦略の違いと実行パターンを調査する。 研究の結果、韓国語話者は親しい関係では真実を語る戦略を好むのに対し、日本語話者は関係維持のために嘘の戦略をより多く用いる傾向があることが確認された。また、社会的距離が増すにつれて、両グループとも嘘の戦略の使用頻度が高くなり、その中でも言い訳を用いる戦略が最も好まれることが明らかになった。 本研究は、韓国語および日本語学習者に教育的示唆を与え、相互の文化的背景を理解し、適切なコミュニケーション戦略を習得する手助けとなることが期待される。特に、談話完成課題(DCT: Discourse Completion Test)の応答パターンを活用した分析は、学習者が自然にコミュニケーション戦略を身につける上で有益であると考えられる。
