This study aims to explore how young children's awareness, attitudes, and knowledge about the environment change through the Precious Earth project activities. The study was conducted over a 10-week period from September 23 to November 29, 2024, involving 20 five-year-old children from a kindergarten in G Province. Data were collected through observation journals, recorded videos, teachers' reflective journals, class journals, and interviews. The collected cases were analyzed using a descriptive case study approach. The results of the study are as follows. First, as children explored environmental issues through the project activities, they gradually recognized the necessity of environmental protection and began to connect this understanding to their daily lives. Second, while children initially participated passively in activities under teacher guidance, they gradually transitioned to proactive engagement, voluntarily practicing environmental protection through play and inquiry-based exploration. Third, children expanded their scientific knowledge and environmental concepts while seeking creative solutions to environmental problems. Notably, they demonstrated a willingness to apply the knowledge acquired through play and exploration to real-life situations, aiming to continuously practice environmentally friendly behaviors. These findings suggest that project-based environmental education is effective in fostering young children's internalization of environmental awareness through play and exploration, ultimately leading to active implementation in their daily lives.

본 연구는 소중한 지구 프로젝트 활동을 통해 환경에 대한 유아의 인식, 태도, 지식이 어떻게 변 화하였는지 탐색하는데 목적이 있다. 연구는 2024년 9월 23일부터 11월 29일까지 총 10주간 진행되 었으며, G도에 위치한 유치원의 만 5세반 유아 20명(남 10명, 여 10명)이 참여하였다. 관찰일지, 녹 화 영상, 담임교사의 반성적 저널, 학급 저널, 면담 내용 등을 자료로 수집하였다. 수집된 사례는 기 술적 사례연구 방법을 적용하여 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 유아들은 프로젝트 활동을 통해 환경 문제를 탐색하며 점차 환경 보호의 필요성을 인식하고, 이를 자신의 생활과 연결하여 사고하는 모 습을 보였다. 둘째, 초기에는 교사의 지시에 따라 수동적으로 활동에 참여하던 유아들이 점차 놀이 와 탐구 속에서 환경 보호 실천을 자발적으로 수행하며 태도 변화를 보였다. 셋째, 유아들은 과학적 개념과 환경 지식을 확장하며, 문제 해결을 위한 창의적인 방안을 모색하는 모습을 보였다. 특히, 놀 이와 탐구 활동을 통해 습득한 지식을 실제 생활에 적용하려는 태도를 보이며, 환경 보호 행동을 지속적으로 실천하고자 하였다. 이러한 본 연구 결과는 프로젝트 기반 환경 교육이 놀이와 탐구를 통해 유아들의 환경 보호 개념을 내면화하고, 실천으로 연결시키는 데 효과적임을 시사한다
