Not only the elderly, but also young people are dying alone. The steadily increasing number of lonely deaths shows that our society is becoming more “socially isolated”. Can the church be an alternative to loneliness in such a time? Can hospitality contribute to this alternative? What should the sermon say and to whom should it be addressed? Taking these questions as a starting point, this study proceeds as follows. First, we examine the history of loneliness as a connective event, as illustrated by the Netflix original drama Move to Heaven. Move to Heaven suggests that the hospitable qualities of remembering and lament can provide seal dignity and social connection to the unrelated dead. Drawing on Jacques Derrida's creation of conditions and places of hospitality in unconditional hospitality and Hyun-Kyung Kim's understanding of unconditional hospitality, which is the act of visiting those who are displaced in the territory of the Other and creating an absolute place for them, as methodologies, this study examines previous research on Christian hospitality. The research on Christian hospitality reveals that Christian hospitality begins with God's act of self-emptying. This poetic hospitality transforms those who receive hospitality from God into those who participate in hospitality, performing the acts of remembering, lamenting, and penetrating. Therefore, in response to the question, “Can hospitality contribute to the formation of an alternative to solitary death?” this study will use Matthew 20:1-16 to argue that God's hospitality of emptying himself in order to show mercy and save lives makes this possible, that sermons call attention to God's hospitality, and that the time spent in a sermon becomes an event in which one experiences God's hospitality and moves into a place of giving God's hospitality, thus forming the church as an alternative to lonely death.

노인뿐만 아니라 청년도 고독사하는 시대이다. 꾸준히 늘어나는 고독사 발생은 우리 사회가 그만큼 ‘사회적 고립’이 심한 사회임을 보여준다. 이러한 시대에 교회는 고독사의 대안이 될 수 있는가? 환대(hospitality)는 그 대안을 이루는 데 기여할 수 있는가? 이를 위해 설교는 무엇을 말해야 하며, 누구에게 말해야 하는가? 이와 같은 질문을 출발점으로 삼는 본 연구는 다음과 같이 진행한다. 먼저, 넷플릭스 오리지널 드라마<무브 투 헤븐>(Move to Heaven)이 시사하는 연결 가능 한 사건으로써의 고독사를 살펴본다. 무브 투 헤븐은 기억하기와 애도하기라는 환대의 특성이 무연고 사망자에게 인감의 존엄과 사회적 연결을 제공할 수 있음을 시사한다. 이에 천착하여 자크 데리다(Jacques Derrida)의 무조건적 환대에 나타나는 환대의 조건-장소 만들기와 김현경의 무조건적 환대에 관한 이해, 곧 타자의 영토에 유폐된 이들을 찾아가 절대적 자리를 만들어 주는 일을 방법론으로 삼아 기독교 환대에 관한 선행 연구를 살펴본 다. 기독교 환대를 다루는 연구는 기독교의 환대가 하나님의 자기 비움이란 행동에서 출발 함을 밝힌다. 이 시적 환대는 하나님으로부터 환대받은 이들을 환대에 참여하는 자로 변화 시키며, 기억·애도·침투하기를 수행하게 한다. 따라서 본 연구는 ‘환대가 고독사의 대안을 이루는 데 기여할 수 있는가?’라는 질문에 대해 마태복음20장1-16절을 들어 자비를 베풀고 생명을 살리기 위해 자신을 비우는 하나님 의 환대가 이를 가능하게 하며, 설교는 설교에 참여하는 이가 하나님의 환대에 주목하여야 함을, 설교에 참여하는 시간이 하나님의 환대를 경험하고, 하나님의 환대를 베푸는 자리로 나아가는 사건이 됨으로써 고독사 대안으로 교회를 형성하게 한다고 주장할 것이다.
