Preaching is an act that brings about change in life by relating the central idea of the text to the audience's situation. However, in the two actions of grasping the central idea of the text and conveying it to the audience, it is essential not only to examine the content of the text but also to understand the literary type and characteristics of the text. This is because the Holy Spirit, who gave inspiration at the time of writing the Bible, and the author who wrote under that inspiration decided to take into account the genre, that is, the vessel that would contain the message. Traditionally, preachers had a strong tendency to understand the content of any type (genre) of text and then deliver it by putting it into a mold called ‘three major sermons.’ However, as Steven W. Smith says, if the goal of a sermon is to ‘recapturing’ what God has already said, it is necessary to attempt to convey it by making use of the form that already exists in the text. Therefore, in addition to understanding the content of the Bible, it is important to understand the literary type of the text in order to secure diversity in sermon delivery methods. Psalms are more appropriate than other types to identify the literary type of the Bible text and apply it to sermons. This is because the Psalms have unique characteristics among types of biblical literature. Therefore, this study examines the importance of biblical literary types (genres), understands the text according to the characteristics of Hebrew poetry, and proposes a preaching method that applies it.

설교란 본문의 중심사상을 청중의 상황에 맞게 연관 지어 줌으로 삶의 변화가 일어나게 하는 행위이다. 그런데 본문의 중심사상을 파악하고 그것을 청중에게 전달하는 두 가지 행위에는 본문의 내용만 살피는 것 만이 아니라 그 본문의 문학 유형과 그 특징을 이해하는 것이 필수적이다. 왜냐하면, 성경을 기록할 당시 영감을 주신 성령님과 그 영감을 받아 기록한 저자는 메시지를 담을 그릇 즉 장르까지 고려해서 결정했기 때문이다. 전통적으로 설교자들은 어떤 유형(장르)의 본문이든지 내용을 파악한 후에는 ‘삼대지 설교’라는 틀(mold)에 집어넣어 전하는 경향이 강했다. 하지만 Steven W. Smith가 말하듯 설교의 목표가 하나님이 이미 말씀하신 것을 ‘다시 전달하는 것’(Recapturing)이라면 본문 에 이미 존재하는 형태를 살려 전달하려는 시도가 필요하다. 그러므로 성경의 내용 파악에 이어 설교 전달 방식의 다양성을 확보하기 위해서도 본문의 문학 유형 이해가 중요하다. 성경 본문의 문학 유형을 파악하고 이를 설교에 적용하는 데는 다른 유형에 비해 시편이 적절하다. 왜냐하면, 시편은 성경 문학 유형 가운데 독특한 특징을 가지고 있기 때문이다. 그러므로 본 연구는 성경 문학 유형(장르)의 중요성을 살펴본 후 히브리 시(詩)의 특징에 따라 본문을 이해하고 이를 적용한 설교 방법을 제안하고자 한다.
