The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of caregiver depression on the behavioral problems of children in incarcerated families, thereby enhancing the understanding of this relationship and deriving practical and policy implications. For this purpose, data from the "Survey on the Actual Conditions of Children of Inmates" provided by the Korean Social Science Data Archive (KOSSDA) were utilized, focusing on caregivers raising children of incarcerated individuals. The main findings are as follows. First, the average level of behavioral problems among children of inmates was 21.51 points, while the average level of caregiver depression was 18.80 points. Second, higher numbers of incarcerations, lower levels of inmates’ awareness of their children's circumstances, and higher levels of caregiver depression were associated with increased behavioral problems in children. Based on these results, several policy and practical implications are suggested. First, programs and systems are needed to prevent and treat depression among caregivers in incarcerated families. Second, it is necessary to expand opportunities for contact between incarcerated parents and their children by providing various types of visitation systems. Third, academic and emotional support programs should be developed for children in incarcerated families.

본 연구의 목적은 수용자 가정에서 양육자의 우울이 자녀의 문제행동에 미치는 영향을 분석함으로써, 그 관계의 의미를 이해 하고 실천적ㆍ정책적 함의를 도출하는 것이다. 이를 위해 한국사 회과학자료원에서 제공하는 수용자 자녀 실태조사를 활용하여 수용자 자녀를 양육하는 보호자를 대상으로 분석하였다. 주요 연 구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 수용자 자녀의 문제행동 수준은 전체 평균 21.51점으로 나타났으며, 양육자의 우울감 수준은 전 체 평균 18.80점으로 나타났다. 둘째, 수용자의 수용횟수가 많을 수록, 수용자의 자녀 상황 인식 수준이 낮을수록, 양육자의 우울 이 높을수록 수용자 자녀 문제행동이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과를 통해 정책적ㆍ실천적 함의를 도출하였다. 첫 째, 수용자 가정 양육자의 우울감 치료 및 예방을 위한 프로그램 및 제도 마련이 필요하다. 둘째, 수감된 부모와 자녀가 접촉할 수 있는 기회를 늘리고, 다양한 접견 방식이 제공되도록 제도 마 련이 필요하다. 셋째, 수용자 가정의 자녀를 대상으로 학업 및 정서 지원 프로그램 마련이 필요하다.
